What's the BEST thing about living in Kingwood/Houston area.

I think being in near proximity to IAH, BW8 and 99 are good thinks for mobility.

We chose this suburb due to being one of the 3 top performing school districts in the metro area when we moved in 1998. It also had the metro area's lowest crime rate, and had the quickest 30 mile commute to downtown.I was also looking for a suburb likely to retain or grow its property value. The 2 country clubs was appealing, not because I play golf (I don't), but because there were 2 significant pieces of real estate that attracts people who can influence property values.I took a city planning class many years ago. Preserving property value was determined to be more likely with natural boundaries such as rivers, lakes, mountains, and so on.With Kingwood being protected from neighborhood creep along the east and south sides by a lake and rivers, while the west side lacks any real threat of adjoining areas devaluing nearby real estate, Kingwood became one of the most desirable locations for me.When friends that are not from Houston come to visit, they are impressed by the tree lined Kingwood Dr, with occasional views of waterways and golf courses. Then they notice the abundance of roads that cross over green belts so that joggers and kids on their way to school are protected by traffic - both things that we loved when we chose this place and now take for granted until friends remind us how special that is.

Lived in Dallas ( Highland Park area) for a few years, and loved it. I do like H-town better, as I was born here, and more, of course. KW is a great spot for the location, ease to get into the City, and the small town vibe, but good things to do. I like DiMaria, and some of the other local businesses, there. Good place to raise kids.

IDK. 20 years ago when we moved here we picked Kingwood over Pearland. There was an abundance of trees and Kingwood Dr and Northpark were simple to navigate. Now there's constant flooding, homes are popping up which yields a mass disappearance of beautiful trees, shopping centers have expanded, and now this dreaded overpass project has stolen the innocence of the area. People in Kingwood are way more aggressive and rude on the roadways and everyone's in a rush. What happened?I've given due diligence but in 2 years I'm moving away. Although I'm fond of some specialized markets, even a Sprouts or a Trader Joe's won't win me over at this point. * And by the way, whoever was in charge of paving Kingwood Drive should be held accountable for the constant repair work that is simply a bandage over a much deeper structural problem. If you want proof, look at the concrete from Wendy's to Green Oak **specifically the Shell station across from Veritex Bank.

I really can't say, I always consider myself a transplant, but I've lived here longer than I've lived anywhere else. I never planned to make Houston my home then things changed. I got my degree from UH, I met and married my beautiful wife, I have whole social circle and boom. It's home now. I hate the traffic, the property crime sucks, but there are great jobs here, great restaurants, sports teams, and the health care is fantastic. Take the good with the bad.
