CarGuy717 :
I understand what you are saying. I think very strict without compromise penalties. If someone is caught bring it in alone with their helpers all face the same strict penalties. Eventually after some punishments are carried out. Others think about selling or transporting stung into the US will decide it's not worth the risk.

I would like there to be judges to decide if illegals entering the country anywhere, when caught will have a hearing before a judge to decide if the asylum claim hold up. If not y try hey are kept in detention until return flights can be arranged. We knew laws to create many more judges. Eventually the asylum claims will diminish to a realistic rate. Right now my guess is 95% plus just want a better life. We can't take care of everyone in the world wants a better life. If we continue we will be the country like where they have come from.

My total guess is the rehab in the drug transporters, dealers and users are very low. We have. Tried these things and it's not working. The extreme punishments will change things. It's unfortunate it has to be that way. Society has changed since the early to late 1900s.

Look what has happened to crime since they made it legal to steal up to $900. Much more crime. Including letting dangerous people out without bail or very low bail. It didn't and doesn't work.

Sorry for any typos, I haa a be fat fingers !

gwizz00001 : We've been fighting the drug war the same way this whole time. Even professors and lawyers and judges and many people who've studied the war itself all agree. It's not the way to do it. In fact, it's only made the drug trade grow. We have nascar solely because outlaws made more and more money off of more and more restrictions and legal **** over alcohol. Making it illegal made it a gold mine. Cocaine is very illegal and dealers are hit hard. And it's only become more widespread since it became illegal, and only made the cartels more and more money. 400mil dollars worth are produced every. Single. Week. In Columbia (fact check that, cuz I might be off, but I was just talking about this and saw it last night). Imagine a world where all the coke heads could get out on an individually based program to get them clean, real, legal coke in a dose count that'll help them slow down their drug use, alongside reduced priced counseling for drug addiction. Let them safely get to a point where they truly get to a "recreational user" level, and get to the point where they get a nights worth of cocaine one or two weekends a month. Instead of paying their dealer hundreds and hundreds of dollars for dangerous "cocaine", they pay a more fair price for pharma grade. They better their life without making it so uncomfortable that the addiction keeps its hold. Now spread that out across every drug. Have it tied to a national database where you need multiple forms of gov id including ssn, and have the entire purchase history and guidance plan available at any database access point to put a stop to the initial attempts at fraud, while closely watching the system and detecting other possible fraud routes and ways to stop them. Make a "seed to sale" style tracking system to initially try to keep a clear way to determine pharma vs counterfeit and then again, continue to develop and implement better ways. It'll be messy at first, maybe. But so is every other major change in policy and way of doing things. Mixing cars and horses in the beginning of automobiles was crazy and horrible. But it ended up working until horses went to the wayside.

Outside of the main pro being better chances of actual rehabilitation, there's the significant drop in overdoses, the sudden insane drying up of the cash flow to the cartels. Whether it's super quick or it takes 1-2 years, it's going to happen. Furthermore, drug related crime in the meantime would drop. Gang crime, usually funded mostly or solely on drugs, drops. Murder rates go down. There's no more turf wars, at some point, for drug sales and the likes, so it hits the organized crime on both sides of the border. Continuing on, it's possible that healthcare costs could go down a bit. At least, pharmaceuticals. Now that big pharma can create the illegal substances that so many pay so much for, they all start laying the role of Walter white to make the purest and safest forms. And now, certain therapy solutions can actually be studied and implemented, such as mushroom/ketamine therapy for various things.
We could try to actually make a change. Or just keep doing the same stupid **** we've been doing this whole time. Again, there would be a lot to workout. Knowing how the gov works, it'll take a year or more to even get started in ironing out the final details. And that'll take time too. But it's a shot at actual change that, if anything, we can just walk back and go back to the other way while we continue seeking better solutions.

@Reverb2000 : I'm not sure that a blind eye is turned. The US has spent an estimated trillion dollars on the war on drugs, since implemented by tricky Dick in '71. Quite the expensive, losing battle.

buffaloglenn: Sort of like the war on poverty, right?
