Only months after being devastated by flood damage from Hurricane Harvey, Kingwood’s waterfront village revives with renewed and expanded office, retail and restaurant offerings.[images 2, 3, 4 & 5/press release via Midway] “Kings Harbor has seen a lot of community support since Harvey,” said Suzanne Weatherall, Sr. Vice President of Commercial Asset Management at Midway. “We are very excited to begin the process of rebuilding and reintroducing the Kingwood community’s favorite waterfront destination.” After Hurricane Harvey’s historic deluge, Kings Harbor, which had never flooded before, took on 6 feet of water in all its first-floor businesses. Once the flood waters receded, remediation efforts and building repairs began immediately. Many of the locally owned businesses operating “mom and pop” single locations at Kings Harbor also suffered severe damage to their homes. But they wasted no time, as some, like Nikole Davis, owner of Pretty Little Things boutique, quickly opened temporary pop-up locations and online shops catering to loyal customers while also piecing their lives back together. On August 29, Davis posted on her personal Instagram, “I don't know that you're ever prepared to hear about your home & business being under water, but the outpouring of love is beyond what I could ever hope for. Thank you. We're coming back!”By November, the second-floor offices of Joseph Chris Executive Partners, BRW Architects, Inc., Comfort & Care Medical Supplies, Inc., and Orion Engineered Carbons had resumed operations.
In addition to existing tenants returning and reopening, one Kings Harbor tenant chose to open a second business for the first time there.Felicia Cumby, owner of Dapper Darlings Boutique also is a branch representative for Edward Jones. The new Edward Jones location at Kings Harbor will occupy 1,099 SF of second level office space and construction is currently underway."I am excited to be moving my Edward Jones (281-359-3815) office to Kings Harbor. It's an area I frequent with my family," Felicia Cumby said. "Our firm concerns itself exclusively with the needs of individual investors and small-business owners, and I'm happy to continue to bring that kind of personalized service to this community."Kings Harbor has several other businesses not just rebuilding, but also expanding. Pretty Little Things is expanding to include an office area for boutique owner, Nikole Davis. This will increase Pretty Little Things’ space to 1,457 SF."We wanted to take this time to start fresh and take a look at what we loved and what could use improvements. An additional room for storage and an office will keep the store open and organized,” said Nikole Davis, owner of Pretty Little Things. “We cannot wait to get back into the space and recreate ourselves! It will still be us, just better!"Midway anticipates an increase in construction activity in the coming months. Currently, Capital Title has completed its rebuild and began operations in December 2017. Restaurants returning to Kings Harbor include Chimichurri’s South American Grill, which began construction in January 2018, with Raffa’s not far behind, and Zammitti’s planning to expand its offerings with espresso and an enhanced bar.“Seeing our space full of activity and dust flying is a very emotional and sensitive feeling,” said Ronald Perez, owner of Chimichurri’s. “We look forward to opening our doors and serving the community again very soon.”Dapper Darlings Boutique, Pretty Little Things Boutique and The Berry Bar are projected to begin construction this month. The popular Sharky’s restaurant also plans to return, although the exact date targeted for reopening has not yet been determined.Kings Harbor will celebrate its revival with a brand refresh and new website. The community will have the opportunity to check out the new logo and branding on social media as the destination’s rebuilding campaign launches a hashtag, #Demos to Dreams. The new website will follow soon after.“We saw this time of rebuilding as a great opportunity to refresh the look and feel of the Kings Harbor brand,” said Robert Williamson, vice president at Midway. “The new logo and brand design is timeless, and appropriately reflects the project’s beloved waterfront location.
