DDSS : I'm sure that the many who have been killed, maimed and mauled by the breed will be impressed to hear that. I'm not an animal lover guy, but if I were to get a dog, with all the breeds available, why pick that one? It doesn't always go bad, but when it does it can be catastrophic. No thanks. I'll just take a Golden Retriever, an Irish Setter or something like that. Why FAFO needlessly?

I have met some very very loving pit bulls. They were incredibly sweet and wouldn't hurt a fly. However, unfortunately the majority have a loose wire. It's like people who raise tigers and suddenly a tiger snaps. Something about this breed is still wild in their DNA.

HappyDay2016 : The discussion and questions about the temperament and makeup of Pitbull's can go on until the cows come home and it would be impossible to solve. I'm sure that there are many Pitbull's out there who are sweet, loving dogs and don't hurt a fly. The problem as I see it, as a non dog person on the outside looking in and without an axe to grind either way is this. I read about this issue once out of curiosity and one thing virtually everyone agrees on is that they have a bite force that's virtually unmatched by other domesticated dog breeds.
Pitbull's can (and do) do more damage, when motivated to do so, than about any other dog. Basically, when they're angry, someone is going to pay a very large price with some very severe damage. Is that a chance I want to take in my own house? No, it's not. Do I want to live next to a possible force of destruction virtually unmatched in capability in the canine world? No, I don't really want that either. Do Golden Retrievers bite? Of course, some do. It's not common but certainly some do. Would I prefer to get bit by a Golden or a Pitbull? If I had to choose, I'd take the Golden, every time. (And I'm not picking on Golden's. Just a randomly selected breed.)
It's not a question of if Pitbull's are more prone to bite. It's a question of the lethality they cause when they choose to do so.

The number one biter is a German Shepard. They are trained by police to attack. I have had 2 in my life who would never bite unless they thought I was in danger. But the force of their bite is very mild compared to a pit bull.
But my GS would die for me. But she knew who was in my pack. And she was introduced to total strangers and I said they were ok and from then on they could walk right into my house.
I see your point about the nature of the force of the pit bull. I myself would not own one.

It's the breed…they are genetically engineered to maim and kill in the pits for many generations plus bred for extreme prey drive. When did you last hear of a poodle or lab killing their owner…..NEVER !!

When it took generations of breeding to make them attack dogs you aren't going to breed it out of them in just a few years.
