Trump Immigration Crackdown Could Slash Social Security by $2,152 Annually

The Trump administration's intensified immigration enforcement is projected to cause significant economic fallout for Americans, including an average annual Social Security benefit cut of $2,152 by 2034 and beyond, according to a new report obtained by the Guardian. The policies have already triggered a mass exodus of 1.2 million foreign-born workers, driving up food prices, stalling construction, and shrinking the labor force across the country.

Social Security Benefits at Risk Amid Worker Exodus
The report, commissioned by America's Voice and conducted by Economic Insights and Research Consulting, reveals that elderly Americans face an 8.6% reduction in retirement payments as a direct consequence of the Trump administration's anti-immigration campaign if current policies persist. Unauthorized immigrants contribute significantly to the US Social Security fund through payroll taxes, totaling an estimated $26 billion, despite not being eligible for benefits themselves. The loss of these workers threatens the fund's solvency and the retirement income of native-born Americans.

ProblemAgain :
I don't understand why don't they just come in legally. Then they could become citizens and could live here with no worries.

People commit crimes because they gamble on the odds they will get away with whatever they're doing. I reckon it takes time and money. Legally, it takes roughly anywhere between 5 to 12 or more years and costs between $4K and $11K or more in our currency. You can look up fees at uscis.gov on the Fee Calculator. There's an almost decade long backlog for asylum seekers as well.

If you're trying to escape having someone wipe out you and your family and have dwindling options, one would assume you could make some poor decisions. Desperation drives people to make the journey, but human smugglers lie to migrants about how easy it is to stay. Financially and legally, crossing unlawfully is a devastatingly restrictive, more expensive route that offers zero long-term security.

That just says you don't understand what the Republican Party has done to stifle legal inmmigration since the House rejected the Gang of 8 negotiated Senate bill Obama said he would sign. You can't understand what you don't even try to understand thing you don't care enough to follow. Google BORHNER RULE. Things don't happen in vaccums.
I was crunching thoae numbers last nightt. I think thosee reported by that group may be low. In my opinion they are not factoring in a high enough increase in senior care worker pco.pensation.

The point of the article is that contributions to social security by illegals are subsidizing social security since the illegals aren't able to draw social security.

Findings such as these are not reliable and not scientific because they don't consider all factors mainly because the cost of doing so is prohibitive. Unless they considered all the easily found counterarguments this is just another set of wordage that may or may not hold valid over time. Be wary even if the organization that conducted the study is considered unbiased.

Points to ponder:
"Long-Term Net Benefit Liabilities: Critics argue that while unauthorized workers pay into payroll taxes now, those who eventually achieve legal status or retire will claim benefits, creating a long-term liability that outweighs their initial contributions.

Fiscal Cost of Public Services: Opponents contend that unauthorized immigration imposes net costs on state and local public budgets (such as education, emergency healthcare, and public infrastructure), which can offset or exceed payroll tax contributions.

Structural Solvency Drivers: Traditional economists and fiscal watchdogs like the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) emphasize that Social Security's core shortfall is driven by demographic shifts-such as a declining worker-to-beneficiary ratio and a rapidly aging native-born population-rather than immigration policies alone.

Displacement and Wage Effects: Critics of open or high-net migration argue that increasing or maintaining a large low-wage unauthorized labor pool can depress wages for native-born low-skilled workers, reducing higher-tier payroll contributions from the broader workforce.

Reliance on Temporary/Non-Standard Identifiers: Skeptics note that payroll taxes paid via Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) or mismatched numbers involve complex administration, and relying on an undocumented labor base is an unstable foundation for a federal entitlement program."
