Weirdly, the minister that performed our ceremony on a Tuesday(I think), was arrested for having sex and/or trying with his daughter's friends the next Friday..

Paris390: Should of joined us at the Country Club-we had great views. Food was OK-I can't complain!

Tony Austin, thank you for all of the hard work you have given to Kingwood each year. The fireworks show was not perfect this year but let's not all forget how wonderful they have been in the past and will be again. No one is perfect and people do make mistakes. It was a free show, let's don't beat a man down. He took responsibility for it, apologized, let's let it go. Lessons were learned. 4951

I call those free comments bs. They money that me and my family spent down at Town Center yesterday. I'm sure the City of Kingwood made plenty of money to pay for a decent firework show. Completely unacceptable You know that vendors have to pay to set up tents.

Bjasonb76:

The City of Kingwood does not pay for the fireworks.  They are paid for by private sponsors.  The vendors who set up for the festival did pay a fee, but I can tell you first hand, their fees did not cover the cost of that festival.  It costs thousands of dollars to put on an event of that scale.  People don't understand that or don't appreciate it, I am not sure which one, but the town does not subsidize any events that happen in Town Center Park. 4951

I have been going to Town Center for the past 16 years, and honestly it has been downhill the past 5 or so. My family ( with two school age kids) had already decided not to go. We ended up going to a friend's house in Humble, did fireworks there and had a great time. On our way home, we noticed a ton of people pulled over on the WLH bridge by Kings Harbor. They were watching the fireworks. If people are that upset, there is a complete loss of perspective. And no wonder kids have such feelings of entitlement. It all starts at home, what are you teaching your kids? And why so upset for 5 minutes worth of fireworks? 4951

>> It sounds like the event isn't moving from the country club next year. Perhaps it is time to take this community event out of the hands of the businesses. The country club can do whatever it wants on its own for its members. We are a community, distinct from downtown Houston and the goings on there.  We have a service association which handles operational management of our parks, entrance ways, etc.  Why don't we just pay a very small amount more in our HOA fees to have them handle the fireworks show?  I looked up the cost of an average municipal fireworks show.  According to google, it averages $20,000.  If only 5 of the ~20 HOAs agreed to contribute, the assessment per house for the fireworks would be between $1-4 dollars annually. Most of the people in town center, the old HEB parking lot, the high school and all of the other places around the would have paid this amount per car to see the fireworks. Some people said it isn't wasn't that important. In response, let me ask you this?  Is there another event in Kingwood which brings the Kingwood community out together en masse outside of the fourth of July? I would hate too see people get fed-up with this event in our community and go to other communities to see fireworks. If you don't feel that the people would agree to pay through their HOA fees?  Try crowdfunding - after last night I think that you'd get all the money you needed with a few community emails in one day on gofundme EmoticonAnd Yes, I would be willing to help although I have no authority so perhaps I will appeal to my HOA and others can do likewise.

I didn't run the numbers as you did, but agree, that if it comes down to $5 or less annually for HOA dues, it seems reasonable to have them run a show in a more accessible place.  I would also say though, that the parade itself is another event that exists every year outdoors, and which the entire community can attend, so there already is an event, albeit one without explosions.

buffaloglenn: Certainly a good start to a solution.  But here is the real problem....real estate.  Fireworks require large open and unobstructed spaces to be set off.  In the past the KCC has allowed other sponsors to use their land (and covered the clean up and took on the liability) at the Golf School.  There are few places in Kingwood that fit the bill to do fireworks besides golf courses.  Could there be other suitable locations?  Perhaps.  You would need to do a survey with a pyrotechnics person and the fire marshall.  The real issue is that TCP was not able to find any sponsors for the fireworks, which are very expensive.  KCC stepped up and footed the bill.  As a result, they wanted to move the show so that is was visible from the clubhouse, not unreasonable.  As Tony mentioned, no one foresaw an issue with the new location.  Clearly there was an issue.  Unfortunately it was a hard lesson learned all around. As for next year, perhaps as a community we should; 1. Help TCP acquire sponsors for the fireworks, 2. donate to have better fireworks, 3. offer to volunteer for planning, etc.  There is a lot that can be done.  Trust me, planning events such as this are NOT EASY!  They require an immense amount of time, money, and resources. Everyone is so fast to point fingers, but as others have stated, very few are willing to help.  I find it so sad that people are being so nasty about this issue.  Tony is a good man, I have worked closely with him for my events.  The folks at KCC are wonderful and sweet, I am sure they meant no harm.  For those who are insinuating that either group was engaging in malice...so sad. 4951

On Friday, July 14th at around 10:30 pm, there will be a fireworks display near the intersection of Texas and Crawford St. in downtown Houston. So, all of the upset mommies and daddies can load up their van full of PTSD toddlers and give them the fireworks display that they deserve (by God)!!! There will be more pyrotechnics opportunities on Aug 4 and Aug 18.

You're welcome. 4951
