BUT you do not need over 50% of the vote to win in a Presidential election.

UptownGirl : Did I say or even imply that someone needs over 50% of the popular vote to win?

Joe : This is irrelevant. We should all be able to agree with this. But I doubt there's anyone on this forum who isn't aware of our history of peaceful civil disobedience. That's not why we're having this conversation. We're having this conversation because of the escalation of tactics. They are not just waving signs, shouting the usual "hey, hey, ho, [fill in the blank] has got to go" mantras, enjoying a riveting drum circle, while braless women dance around poorly (more of this please). Agitators are assaulting ICE agents who are enforcing legitimate laws passed by Congress. They are attempting to identify ICE agents so they can post their identities and addresses online (so that others can do what with that information?) One poster that attempted to explain the reasoning (for the escalated criminal behavior) to me said it was because ICE agents wear face masks (to protect their identity). I responded that ICE agents masks do not protect them from being held legally accountable by lawful means. It protects them from being held accountable by unlawful means (again, the reason we are having this conversation). Why are agitators using other people as pawns to put their lives, safety, freedom, and employment at risk while simultaneously dehumanizing ICE agents? I'm sure it's happened before, but that behavior and those strategies should have no place in pursuing the risky goal of civil disobedience. Interfering with ICE operations and alerting targeted arrestees to a potential lawful arrest puts lives at risk. Seems like a predictable recipe for the incident that led to Renee Good's death.

Spork : You have a very good grasp on this tragedy. I do pray lessons are learned.

Please do protest but understand there are consequences to stupid actions. Stay on the sidewalks people.

Spork :
I think there are two points that you are missing.
1. Noem assigned blame to the driver before having any time to assess. She should have said "we are investigating". Not assign blame. And she should not have called the driver a domestic terrorist. (does that make Miep Gies a domestic terrorist for doing essentially the same thing?)
2. Another ICE officer charged the vehicle and attempted to take the driver out by force. I think that is when the situation began to escalate.

sebastian2 : Who charged?? The second officer walked up to the car to open the door bc she refused to exit the car. And the really awful thing is, had she done that, we wouldn't be talking about this today.

But since in your view I'm immature and you are much wiser and smarter than me, I must acquiesce to your superior intelligence.

rocket :
I admittedly struggle with this part, expecting people to understand that "What you posted is an immature justification to engage in and promote additional criminal conduct" does not mean I am calling you the person immature.

We all have it in us to do and say immature things. I probably do and say more immature things than 98% of this forum - usually because I immaturely think it's funny.

Again, what you posted was an immature justification in my opinion. Fault me for being wrong about your justification.

But I did not say you are an immature person.

For the record, I'm a ******* who says ******* things. I never claim to have a superior intellect because my academic record speaks to the contrary.
