#msg5940768Is staying here in Kingwood worth it after all these power outages? I love Kingwood but man these power outages are out of hand. It making me want to move to another location. For those who have been here for longer then 5 years what's your opinion?
Depends on what you are looking for. We had been there for well over fourty years and moved at the start of the year. The places I had treked when I was younger were developed and made into neighbourhoods and McMansions. Almost everyone we knew was either dead or left. Health has been slipping for years. Storms, electricity, constant traffic, etc. I'd gotten to a point I only drove at the crack of dawn and be home before sun up. I saw where the economy is headed and decided living there wasn't sustainable and we would be better in a smaller place at this point in life. We moved into the city closer to the med center, theaters, museums, libraries, zoo, various sorts of restaurants, and shops. There's always going to be some good and some bad but, we're happier here. Health is improving. Noise is actually less some how. Haven't had the electricity do more than a single blip in four or five months. Better deal on cable/internet. Literally can walk to HEB, Walmart, the bank, etc. New neighbours are nice and no one has been nasty. So, for us it's been an improvement. In the end, depends what you need. A change in location is not going to solve all problems because they follow you no matter where you are. Others can be improved. 🙂

Exactly. If power outages are the only thing having you consider moving I would think that would be a huge gamble. Other places also have frequent power outages and don't offer the quality of life that Kingwood offers.
We have considered moving but determined Kingwood is the best. Thankfully I didn't buy in The Woodlands in 98 when I bought here. Kingwood is worth the cost of a generator.

#msg5941508Chow : Harris County taxes are something to compare to other counties. As much as I liked KW, the traffic and longer term investment potential were big considerations.
How do you know they don't happen in other parts of the city you might chose to move to? I'm sure other neighborhoods around Houston don't know they happen frequently in some parts of Kingwood.
It's gotten better, yet worse, over the last 6 months. As many of you know, I got a Base battery backup system installed about 4 months ago. Within a month after, the power went out for about 20 minutes, twice. Not that it was a problem because Base restored my power within half a second afterwards. Since then, there have been multiple "flicker" instances where the power went out and back on within just a few seconds, sometimes faster than Base had a chance to respond to. The bad part about that is that it now kicks a circuit breaker that I have to step out into the garage and reset. I suppose that's an improvement overall, and certainly for those without a backup system. Still annoying though.
