Ruger5 : It's long been a problem for them. They have signs asking no donations be left after hours however people leave donations but more people use it as a dump site. I heard they were going to be forced to close that location - unconfirmed rumor.

teatime : Hmmmm we have never had a problem there - they have been helpful to us. Sounds like someone was having a bad day. Sorry you had to deal with it.

Ruger5: Both times we've been in it was a thrift shop. At least the one I am referring to. No dogs.

I stumbled by there 2 weeks ago to pick up some books for my little free library. Turns out after 42 years at that location, they are having to move. The owner of the building will not do any repairs, the AC is out of date and out of order and the rent is sky high. So the big huge mess out front is the leftovers I guess. It's a substantial revenue for the Family Time Crisis center. Yes, it's dirty and yes, TONS of people illegally dump there, but the store supports a local center that is needed. It suffered a lot once Ms. Brenda retired about 5 or 6 years ago. She ran it for years. She is a wonderful lady.

They are still looking for a new location. I suspect the new shop will be in a better location and will be nicer/cleaner. It's so much better to donate to this local charity versus Goodwill.

Here's the update on facebook:

Our Porter location is officially closed! But don't worry, we will be reopening shortly. FamilyTime Thrift Shop is in the process of moving into a new location. Once we are ready to open at our new location we will be making an announcement via social media and our main website. A list of our pages can be found here: linktr.ee/Familytime _ccc...
We appreciate our dedicated customers and cannot wait to have you all back soon!

terrystreasureshop : Hopefully yall are far enough way from the old dumping site that they wont find you and begin dumping again. I shopped there for literal years until it became so not worth it. I am a resale queen. We need an alternative to Black Cat Junction which charges retail too often. But it's a clean, well planned resale shop. I have found so many treasures over the years. I wont lie though……..having here what happened up the road would send me over the edge. Dumping site AND beggars…….
