#msg6031473TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Um, how do you know when you would get full benefits? Is it age related? Or work years put in??

LizBeth91 : It's credits in the system based on amounts contributed over so many years. I reached the full credit amount and retired at 51. It doesn't matter what age you are when you retire; it's reaching forty credits in the system to be paid SS. You can start receiving payments at 62, or wait until full retirement age 67, or wait until 70 for a larger monthly payment.

#msg6031429rocklady2024 : There was a lady on TV complaining it was not enough but she retired at age 55. Now she has to go back to work. My question would be, why did you retire so early, she left a lot of money on the table.

UptownGirl : If she worked for the Government the stress would make you retire early. May also have had a hubby who died and she lost that income.
