Chiza : yes! kids come flying out of those crosswalks all the time.
ZMAN...but I know they are kids...and when I first moved here I witnessed a teen get hit....they were okay, but it was terrifying.
Do you slow down for people at crosswalks? When I'm driving, I always slow down and look to give bikers/walkers the right of way on the many greenbelt crosswalks we have in kingwood. As a runner, I've noticed most drivers do the same, I'll often be waiting for a car to pass and they will flash their lights to give me the right of way or just stop completely to let me pass, I always give a big smile and a wave of the peace sign to say thanks. But this morning while crossing in woodland hills, I swear a lady actually sped up when I was crossing to try to get through the intersection first, and came pretty close to hitting me. If you are that person,.... I hope you stub your toe really badly today.

ZMAN : Yes, I always slow down when crossing a greenbelt crossing. But I see most drivers don't slow down.

ZMAN : This. What makes it difficult though is the clutter at a lot of intersections makes it impossible to see approaching traffic when you stop before the cross walk. I always try to stop at the crosswalk then slowly crawl up to look but the problem with that is if you start looking for traffic as you go into motion you will at some point get someone that will enter the intersection thinking that I saw them since I stopped short.
oldarn : That is true. I always taught my kids to stop. Many cars slow down but they don't have to. The ones in grocery store parking lots, by school zones, etc. clearly state to yield to pedestrians and people just don't .

ZMAN : I thought it was the law and you have to stop at crosswalk signs with downward arrow if there is a pedestrian. I always do when I see someone. Some kids come flying across on bikes or electric scooters. They don't even look! This discussion has been locked.
