Ruger5 : They are a big part of the problem - without easy access to guns, the thugs don't have as many weapons to go around. Here's the thing - most thugs can not legally buy firearms here in the US, either because of cost or because they have a criminal record already. But, if all they have to do is steal them from an unlocked car, or buy them from a teen who took it from daddy's dresser, then suddenly the crooks can afford that firearm. You can't legislate that everyone is going to be a good person and follow the law. But you can take away that easy access to firearms that makes it easier to be a thug. Most people are simply too lazy to do it though.
The problem is everything here is about politics,..... kick the can and point at the other side instead of sitting down and resolving the cause !
Ruger5 : Houston's growth is not only because of the crisis to which you refer. Many, many people are moving here for jobs. I don't attribute all of Houston's growth to a problem that has existed virtually my entire lifetime. Difficult problems are not solved overnight. If it was that easy to solve, it would already be solved. Just a tip I've picked up in my time here.
Ruger5 : I don't consider Carol's tragic murder to be in the same category. Her son shot her, no threat to surrounding neighbors or the rest of us. It was a domestic issue, and no area, no where, is immune to that. I still feel very fortunate to live in a safe community. I go to the grocery store and return home after dark, I take walks around my neighborhood, walk out and check my mail at night..all things that my sister-in-law in Houston is afraid to do. It doesn't mean I throw caution to the wind- I keep my car locked and my home, I have security in my home, I am aware of my surroundings and take logical precautions-but I don't live in fear. Of course there is random crime activity in the area. I don't think you can escape it. Even my friend in rural East Texas was the victim of a home burglary. But I know I am much more on guard in parts of Humble and especially Houston than I am in KW or even Atascocita.
I think a lot of people in Kingwood choose to wear rose colored glasses or make light of issues effecting their area because it's easier than accepting or dealing, but that's okay.
teatime : I respectfully disagree. As tragic as it was, Carol's son was a thug and a criminal who had a wrap sheet longer than I don't know what who was a threat to others and had been actively committing crimes for a really long time. She was actually a teacher of mine and I went to school with her daughter. The system failed her because her son should've been locked up a long time ago. I think a lot of people in Kingwood choose to wear rose colored glasses or make light of issues effecting their area because it's easier than accepting or dealing, but that's okay.
Again? This is getting out of hand. Too many guns in the hands of kids.
Too close to home for comfort.
I'm glad I'm not a cop. The streets of the Humble area are not safe any more.

that area has been rife with problems, for years. More crime, increasingly worse crime

I'm all for the stupid removing themselves from the gene pool, via guns, electrical cables, tide pod challenges… etc….
