We actually bought our first house after just getting married and it was a 2 &1 beach house in rough condition. 21,500 on a GI loan. Should have kept it but thought we were doing great selling it for30,000 two years later. Wish we had known a couple years later a developer would buy up the street and split our large lots and build homes selling for 135,000. We wound up flipping houses for a few years until intrest rates rose.
Remember people- it's not the gun - it's the thug.
Ruger5 : And also the irresponsible gun owners who leave their guns unsecured in their cars, provide easy access to their teen children, etc. If you can afford a firearm and ammo for your firearm, you can pay the money to secure them.
buffaloglenn : There are those - yes yes. I agree. They aren't the crux of the problem though. The easy on thuggery needs to be addressed more than anything else. Armed law abiding citizens and tough on crime leaders is a good place to start.
Ruger5 : I don't consider Carol's tragic murder to be in the same category. Her son shot her, no threat to surrounding neighbors or the rest of us. It was a domestic issue, and no area, no where, is immune to that. I still feel very fortunate to live in a safe community. I go to the grocery store and return home after dark, I take walks around my neighborhood, walk out and check my mail at night..all things that my sister-in-law in Houston is afraid to do. It doesn't mean I throw caution to the wind- I keep my car locked and my home, I have security in my home, I am aware of my surroundings and take logical precautions-but I don't live in fear. Of course there is random crime activity in the area. I don't think you can escape it. Even my friend in rural East Texas was the victim of a home burglary. But I know I am much more on guard in parts of Humble and especially Houston than I am in KW or even Atascocita.
buffaloglenn : Five in two years is what I heard. And that isn't counting the police thug shooting over the summer or the one last night. I lived her 25 years before there was ever a local shooting. Wasn't Carol shot to death this summer? Down play all you like- we absolutely ARE living in a bonafied crime boom. And we all know why
Ruger5 : I never said there isn't crime. But with "shootings in Kingwood", there is no epidemic here. You can try and hype it, but domestic issues and what happens in Humble don't amount to a problem in Kingwood.
sweetie : Look at the gangs that swamped Balmore Subdivision pool coming out from the City ?
sweetie : She was smart to sell and save the heart ache of moving twice !
buffaloglenn : Oh I know, and I apologize for leaving that impression. I meant to infer that you seem to downplay the crime, imo. Chalking it up as status quo, something inevitable. It isn't status quo. When thugs have nothing to fear, when we live in an era where theft is A-OK, where serious crime carries little to no bond…..this emboldens thugs. It puts law abiding folks at risk. Of course it does. We are becoming desensitized. We really are.

Ruger5 : We live in a growing city. The place where I grew up, in town, was tantamount to how parts of Humble are today. Am I desensitized? I don't think so. I can understand that with growth in the population comes a growth in the number of criminals, whether we are tough on crime or not. Would there be less property crimes if said crimes were investigated / charged / convicted / sentenced to more prison time? Probably, and I support more police and harsher sentencing. But assaulters, rapists, and murderers have no fear of the law. 5 years, 10 years, 30 years or the death penalty make no difference to those who do not value human life. The only time Houston has seen lowered crime rates were when there was less influx of new residents, and after a huge increase in police hiring. Both events were temporary.
buffaloglenn : Can't argue with this posting but we all know what is attributing to the influx of crime and why in God's name it is absolutely not being addressed. Yes with population explosion comes crime - aren't you **** the population influx is not being discouraged, but rather ENCOURAGED? This is a solvable crisis - It truly is and we all know it. How bad must it become before it is addressed?
