Maybe pity. I feel for the parents IF they seem bothered..my problem is the parents that dont seem to notice and aren't even trying. Two totally different parenting styles, one i empathize WITH, the other...i don't like your kid and it's your fault.

Not YOU, it's a generic you... 4951

I brought this up years ago and all it did was bring in a bad mouthing from the parents on here. My issue is on airplanes. Why do they let those kids just scream? Especially on Long Long flights it would make me crazy and I would come home with a horrible headache.

luv2eatsushi: Unfortunately kids have no choice but reflect its parents: disrespectful and inconsiderate so much in public as well at home. How can kids learn GOOD MANNERS when they have assess teaching them? who BTW were not thought by its own angry don't give a zheit parents too ( i meant to say). Is as if it is a genetic problem--mark up regardless of ethnicity but more about "class."

Overseas flights with a baby and a toddler, alone, oh boy, no fun.  The young businessman next to me was a saint.  I did my very best, but baby puked on me 2 hours in, I had extra clothes for baby, not me.  While dealing with toddler, baby was pulling on business man's arm hairs. Was supposed to return for 3 months before next move, didn't go back.  I couldn't face the plane ride. 4951

luv2eatsushi:   When my kids were little, and we had long overseas flights, I would give them Benadryl starting the day before, then another dose 1 hour before the flight.  My pediatrician told me to do this cause it helps dry the fluid in their ears, and keeps them from popping. (very painful for a baby)  A small baby or small child does not know how to yawn and clear their ears.  It also helps them sleep thru the flight!!  I always had so many passengers say "WOW, I didn't even know there was a child there!!"   Mine were also NOT allowed to play with tray or KICK a seatback!!  EmoticonBenadryl is MAGIC for kids on a flight!! (and the parents!)

Traveler500: Funny, I said something similar to the sentiment of this entire thread, about a year ago. I was slammed and demonized by several people who were on the other side of the argument and were parents who flew with kids and felt we should all just “nut up and deal with the crying.” One even put me on ignore for my position on the topic. The idea that they should have to drug their precious angel so the rest of the passengers could be unbothered was outrageous, abusive and I was a horrible selfish person for suggesting it.

So sorry!  That is just nuts!  Parents should do whatever is best for all involved , esp when your stuck on an airplane for many hours!!  Medication helps their precious babies be more comfortable during all the pressure changes that happen on a flight.  My youngest baby refused to use a pacifier which "can" help with ear popping ... So Benadryl was a Godsend for her, us, and everyone around us.  People really need to ease up on this stuff...  It is actually just GOOD common sense to use safe methods that are available.  Children's Benadryl is an OTC product NOT prescription.. so it's crazy not to use it.The way airlines are working these days.... some of these paranoid parents are going to find themselves thrown off flights with their precious kiddo's!! 4951

I'm sorry, but while you have an issue with loud kids running around, I have an issue with loud groups of adults.

Adults know better. Kids don't.

I'd rather be around unruly 8 year olds than unruly adults anyday of the week.

This is only slightly related, but I tend to frequent places like Denny’s and iHOP a lot and it always baffles me how there’s children there after 12 am, they aren’t being disruptive or anything but I’m like why is your 3 year old up at midnight having chicken strips? 4951

Had a long flight to the west coast a few years back. Family sat down in the seat row in front of me. Dad by the window, 3-year old turd in center, and mom in aisle seat. Both parents immediately plugged in to headsets and nodded off.

The little turd was loud, carrying on, and started throwing snotty used tissues and slobbery animal crackers at me and and my fellow passengers.

The flight attendent woke them several times to request they calm the little monster down, all to no avail.

My anger finally overrode my patience. I took a permanent marker out of my carry-on, removed the cap, put it in a barf bag, and handed it to the little bastard.

It kept him quiet and occupied for a long time as he explored his innate abilities with regard to artistic expression. Not only did he decorate his hands/face/clothing, but the seat, and both parent's arms and clothing. They remained unaware until just prior to landing. Needless to say, they weren't impressed with his art skills.

Later, the flight attendant and my immediate seat mate treated me to drinks in the airport pub. 4951
