>> why is it some parents sit there and do nothing while their brats ruin everyone elses lunch?

and then they get mad at me when I ask them to shut their little hellion up

PedroDePacas: That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. Some people have learned to tune out their own kids, and some believe others find their kids as adorable and irresistible as they do, so they don’t think they are disruptions. It’s always a difficult conversation but sometimes it has to be done.

Exactly !!!   I don't know how many times I have gone to dinner and several couples, all with kids come in.  They get a table for the adults and anther for the kids.   The adults start drinking and totally tune out the kids....   Kids are loud, demanding of the wait staff, running around while the adults continue to visit and ignore!!!   Good grief, have a backyard picnic !!!! 4951

Until my boys were both older we had limits on flights we would take. Nothing over 3 hours. Nothing good would have come of that.  I knew it before I got in the plane. Lol. Car trips over 4 hours were a no go. Our youngest would get so car sick.  We flew in laws in at Christmas every year.  I refused to ever travel during the holidays once I had kids.  Lots of family weren't real thrilled.  But I had zero problems never seeing them. Or them seeing my kids.  Adults can travel easier than kids imo.  My mil always complained. She hated flying. I always said not an issue you can see the kids when or if we ever go back home. Both of my sisters would kill themselves traveling during the holidays when their kids were young.  I never understood that.  Unless it was life or death no way I would have ever gone on a transatlantic flight when my kids were little.  I flew with them a lot and often by myself. But I had short flights.   I never get irate with crying babies on a plane I feel awful for the babies and the parents.  My dh is still like this too.

I understand what you're saying! We traveled abroad to visit my husband's family. His parents were older and it was harder on them to travel to us. We got his Dad to come to our wedding, but even that was a struggle! And honestly, it was really just our youngest who was hard to travel with! Stubborn personality.  Emoticon 4951

Took the wife out one time to Capital Grill.  Table by us had four kids at it.  That was a once in a lifetime type meal for us.  They were just there eating their normal Saturday night meal.  Not only was it annoying with the kids making noise, but just thinking they had enough money to bring their kids???  It was like a $100 a person, plus wine.  Just shows, it doesn't matter where you go.          4951

crawdaddct:  I would have insisted that we sit somewhere else. Normally, kids can be weeded out when you go to pricier restaurants, but if someone can't cut the cord for one night out without the kids, I'm not going to allow my night to be ruined because of their less than stellar choices.  They should have known better that there's a slim-to-none chance they could get all four kids to behave.  THINK MONKEYS, THINK!  It's not all about you.  Other patrons have a right to a quiet, enjoyable dinner, especially when THEY have paid for a babysitter, or have raised their kids to semi-adulthood.

Donnatella - I have enjoyed your posts today. It took me years to reach your level of insite. I assume you are much younger than I, and for one so young,  lawdy you've got a good grip on this thing called lfe.

My dad verbally disciplining me with his Scottish accent sent shock waves through my spine.

Learn to discipline your children! Oh wait, that's considered child abuse these days. 4951

DVaz: I think part of the problem is those parents find the kids and their behavior adorable and want everyone else to think that as well. However, in a restaurant setting, IT'S NOT.  They make places like Main Event, Chuck E. Cheese, etc. specifically for kids to be able to run around like wild animals and be as "adorable" as their parents think. What's adorable is a cute kid that is behaving.
