Just an FYI, Benadryl can have a completely opposite effect from sedation....my mother-in-law found that out the hard way on her first solo flight to London with a 5 yr old, a 3 yr old and an infant. My DH was the 3 yr old and he was bouncing off the walls after she dosed him. She said it was unbelievable and made for a nightmare flight. She hadn't given it to him before, so she had no idea that it would affect him that way. 4951

This is one of the main problems families with special needs cannot socialize or dine at their favorite restaurants. There are times special needs or autistic kids will have their regression and it is hard to immediately control right away. Usually I take my son for a walk to calm him down. I would say as a parent sworn to protect my son if anyone says anything nasty or rude to me about my son they be ready for a fight as I will protect my son at all cost. 4951

I took a permanent marker out of my carry-on, removed the cap, put it in a barf bag, and handed it to the little bastard.

CBP210: Parents used to do this and it was the norm. It’s just good manners and respectful to others, but unfortunately, it has gone out of style in our “put it all out there” society.

When The Boy was little and we were teaching him restaurant skills, I left many places when he refused to behave. 4951

You make a very good point.  Your right! For some reason Benadryl can have the opposite effect (even tho it usually has a sedation effect) I have heard this very thing from other parents.  I knew the way my children reacted to Benadryl before I used it on a flight.  So testing it BEFORE you have a flight is a very good idea!! Since my pediatrician told me to begin 24-48 hours before the flight to give it time to dry up the fluid in their ears.... I knew in plenty of time.It is probably also a good idea NOT to try NEW meds while on a flight in case one is allergic to it! Just good common sense...  4951

Yep. I have one that has an opposite reaction. Luckily we didn't find out about this on a flight.

I had a bad reaction to Tylenol PM as well. I took it to help me sleep during a long flight but it just made my heart race. I thought I was going to die. Worst trip ever! (I didn't realize that might have been what my kid was feeling because I took it many years after I gave the Benadryl to my little one.) 4951

why is it some parents sit there and do nothing while their brats ruin everyone elses lunch?

and then they get mad at me when I ask them to shut their little hellion up

PedroDePacas:

Go cry me a river. They are paying customers just like you. Maybe eat at a fancy restaurant or shut your pie hole! 4951

Really? You also realize that restaurants reserve the right to serve certain people? You and your kids maybe one of them. 4951
