Salvation Army - do you feel guilty if you don't donate?

No. I don't feel guilty. Not a good reason for giving. I give to some charities and like Weathergirl5 said the Lord knows my heart.

I drop some coins in the bucket because I choose to. Not from guilt. It's a widow's mite

Heck'n no. I donate enough to my kids.

then go to Dollartree...wanna buy a gift for a child at the checkout....

I don't feel guilty because I donate to charities of my choosing - St Jude's, Alzheimer's research, local food banks, and local used clothing stores.I do not give to door to door sales people, street corner beggars (including firemen), or sidewalk beggars who position themselves in front of businesses. I don't give to those groups because I do not want to incentivize those fundraising strategies. I would feel more guilty if I enabled that behavior by giving to them.

I know, and that's one of the reasons I do a dollar at a time! I figure over the Christmas shopping season that only adds up to $10-$15.

I always donate a little in rememberance of my late grandmother. The Salvation Army was very helpful to them during the depression and the war.
