cbear : the owners of Hunan Garden didn't change. I'm not fond of the Hunan Garden Express and I've voiced that to the owner, Jenny, because the food just isn't as good as the restaurant. We go to the restaurant, rather than the express store.

Hate to hear this. I used to love that place.

The wife wanted to order from there just the other day but we didn't. Sad to see them close because I don't want people's livelihoods ruined but I wasn't a fan of it the last couple of years. I guess that lines up with the ownership change.

If I remember correctly , Casa Elena was the only Mexican restaurant in Kingwood in the early eighties.

Sadly, with the rising cost of labor, food costs, and many businesses now running out of Covid assistance money, I think you'll see more closures sooner than later.

That is sad. If only they kept the original owner's standard of operation there would be adequate business to support the restaurant.

It was up in the front of Kingwood so I only ate there once. Living in the back it was just easier to go to Hunan Garden.

I agree 100%. . Cannot just take over a great business and expect it to remain great if you don't keep the high standards of the original owners. I gave them many chances- food quality went down and it took forever to get. Bless those waiters- they had to make a lot of excuses for long wait time. Last time I went I knew it was bad because the fortune cookies were so stale they were like rubber!!!!!

Well…they are now 'sandwiched between the $5 store and the $1 up store. So very sad that whatever group that arranges the rentals for that strip center don't try to attract better business for Kingwood.

myopinions4me : Same thing happened to Zachary's. It was a great place and not just for food. It was a great gathering place for all kinds of music. The original owners sold it to retire and the two @#$% that bought it ran in completely into the ground. You can't own a great place and not show up or be there to keep it great. Phoning it in from a distance just doesn't cut it. Coping a major attitude when the customers don't like your drastic changes to the place, and you can't be a jerk to the people who are actually supporting you. Zachary's was never ever a fine dining establishment, and it was stupid to set a few PITA rules and pretend.

Gammyof2 : What I heard was that Hunan Express is being run by the son of the Owners of Hunan up front. IDK...maybe that isn't the case.

It was on our list to try but never got there. Wondered about the place when I watched an Asian guy dressed in a cooks outfit walk out of Aldi's with a stack of cheesecakes and walk back into Mencius. Aldi's does have some good German desserts
