What is the reason for IAH's huge TSA wait times (like 4 hours)

It's an international airport.

You have spring break rodeo fourth largest city in the United States that is an international airport then you add in government shut down a TSA. It's kind of a no-brainer and a lot of people come in for the rodeo that you don't even think about and right now. Apparently Houston is like a spring break destination with the rodeo.

I get that it's an international Airport but so are many others...

@LoveNC : I believe on the news it said we had the highest sick calls.

@ForestFinds : doesn't explain why larger and busier airports have a shorter wait. I believe it is that over 40% of IAH TSA workers have been calling in compared to national average of 17%

Yes, just like any business, if workers do not show up for work, short staff and abundance of patrons equals a wait time.

I wondered if it was political but DFW is in Texas and not having the same issue to the same level as IAH.

I get that...but it just seems really odd.

@Boonie : This is true for other airports also...the city's often run operations but TSA is federal and seperate from the City. Charlotte is one example of this...smaller airport but one I am familiar with.

Right. But in response to the lefty the Texas GOP has nothing to do with the airport as far as I know.
