Ruger5 : I thought you had a full-house standby generator?

NeverPayRetail : I wish! We have a gas/natural gas that we bought from Costco 4 years ago. It powers all four freezers, stand up AC's, tv, lites. It has saved our hides more than once.I encourage everyone who can to buy one BEFORE you need one. If a storm heads over you won't find one.

Ray said come hang out at his house. He has a nat gas generator in case y'all didn't know.

It HAS to be rolling blackouts doesn't it?? How can 5 villages experience outages at once? And so often? If rolling blackouts just tell us.

Ruger5 : I'm now thinking you have no idea what rolling blackouts are, and what they aim to accomplish.

Remember center point said they were going to do brown outs to conserve energy.... it has started in our area

Jonn : Sneak them in using a blanket. If your pet is a pony, you may need a king sized one.

Short power outages (10-20 seconds) are a way the power company can shed load. Home thermostats have a 5 minute start-delay to protect the A/C compressor and some compressors have their own start-delays. Washing machines, dryers and dishwashers don't automatically restart at all. Power companies use these short outages to shed load when generation to the grid is inadequate.

Ruger5 : that's what I think it is. There's no rain there's no wind nothing to cause it.

KTownTexican : Brownout means the power company is lowering the voltage to reduce load and was used long ago (until the widespread use of computers, etc. - low voltage can fry electronics).
Rolling blackouts have replaced brownouts as the load shedding tool of last resort for power companies.

This is very disturbing- who is responsible for maintaining the delivery equipment ??? If these many outages are not planned rolling blackouts and instead shoddy equipment when will this be addressed?

Ruger5 : It appears Centerpoint has the same problem Suddenlink has/had. Old equipment that has not been maintained.
