Yes it is and that has been my exercise of choice and I still have osteoporosis. I met every highest risk element - tall thin white female.
I haven't seen enough studies on the Vibration plates or OsteoStrong to give an opinion. I'd say they may help if you don't exercise at all but probably not a cure all and it's pricey
I reduced my osteopenia to almost normal by impact exercises( STEP, squat thrusts, jumping up and off blocks, and strength training - heavy weights low reps). Walking is a good start too particularly if you use a weighted vest.
Eat a bowl of raw broccoli every day. Knock it right out.
Thank you. Walking is my exercise. Jumps, thrusts, heavy weights are a bit too much for me - I am an oldie.
I eat an inordinate amount of yogurt and protein drinks. Vitamin D too. My bone density has improved in the last year
Kittle reacted I googled and everything I read says age 65, but I thought my gyno told me 60 a few years ago. I will check, but doubt my insurance will cover before 65. I have changed to my PCP now, but when I went to her she always told me I am at risk.
Thanks - But that's for the infusion, not the injections. Just for clarification.
If you are at risk you may connsider increasing your calcium intake and weight bearing exercises. There are no guarantees tho.
Severe Osteoporosis here. First DEXA scan I was -5 in my spine! Dr freaked out and well, so did I. Immediately did one year of Forteo, daily injections. My spine density went up to -4.9. Ughhh. Then we progressed to Evenity, monthly injections. I cannot remember the number, but my spinal density increased a little. Dr suggested 1 year of Prolia followed by a return to Evenity. Full Stop!! Research will show that Prolia must be followed up with a bisphosphate Stopping prolia without sequencing to a bisphosphonate like Reclast can cause sudden femur fractures. I refused the Prolia and along with my Dr. we felt trying the Reclast was an acceptable solution. (btw, horrible 4 days of pain after that!) My next DEXA scan is next week, so we will see if I have gained or maintained my density. If you have Osteoporosis please research and advocate for yourself. I was seeing one of the best Osteoporosis Dr's in the US and he retired. His replacement is a smart cookie but in no way compares to her mentor. In 3 instances I had to politely disagree and correct her. She realized it and corrected her points. Also, please get your scans on the same machine with the same tech. Many mistakes are made due to the tech not having the patient aligned correctly on the table. A great book to gain some knowledge is Great Bones by Keith McCormick. The book, Exercise For Better Bones by Margaret Martin is very good. Also the Mayo Clinic Connect online forum is a great source. The Facebook group Osteoporosis Education and Support is another great source. There are also Facebook groups for Osteoporosis meds. I hate exercising but I try to get in some walking and light weights. I do take supplements beyond what my Dr suggested. My diet is pretty good. I'm not a fan of the OsteoStrong.
