Stella2020: until you get a text like these from your kid, keep your opinions to yourself

CaffeineFree : Kids left the school on their own. School resumed after the issue was solved. KHS: The lockdown at Kingwood High School has been lifted. The student was detained and no weapons were found. Our campus has returned to normal operations. If you chose to pick up your student, please be sure to follow proper checkout procedures.

MrsTfromADC : In this situation, I would expect my kid to leave. We would have already had a discussion about where I would go to get them if it was not possible for them to get to our home. Every family should have a plan in place long before anything like this happens.

My son, his wife and my granddaughters are moving to Kingwood next month and I will be moving in a couple months there as well. Out of curiosity, is this the first lockdown or has this happened a few times?

kgcheese : I've been here 26+ years and I cannot remember this ever happening at KWH.

Welcome to Kingwood. It really is a great place to live.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA :
That's good but all this appears to have been a blown out of proportion misunderstanding.

MrsTfromADC : I see it as someone thought a kid/kids had guns. It was right for them to take action. It's better to take action than wait and see. Might be too late if they wait.

kgcheese : A couple of bomb threats this year but this was the first gun so far. They'll like it, though.

Heathur : Actually it is not the first gun brought to school this year. A student brought a pistol and then got nervous and gave it to another student and in the hand off several students saw it and raised the red flag. Everything got worked out but there was no lockdown which I think irritated a lot of parents so not sure that is what led to the lockdown today.

I also had a student there today so know exactly how everyone else is feeling who also had a student there today. I am kinda at a loss on why there are no metal detectors.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA :
Like I said, it was a misunderstanding. I didn't say anyone was wrong to report it. But a kid did not have a gun yet there are people continuing to advance that rumor. Even so far as to say the school is covering something up.

MrsTfromADC : I had not seen that. Surely the school would not cover up something like that.

Ahh, I stand corrected. We're at another high school so I just know what my other KHS mama friends tell me, plus I've got the memory of a goldfish. It's sad all around but if nothing more comes from this, I hope conversations are had at home as a result of today. Ours is instructed to run should she ever find herself in a situation like this. Under a desk or locked in a room she is a sitting duck. Regardless of what she's told by anyone else she is to grab her key and pepper spray, excercise good judgement on her way to the nearest exit, & drive or run straight home.

Ch 13 news just said no charges will be pressed re the incident at KHS today. That concerns me; the kind of Terror that ensued re this person's actions, Need to be addressed. If it is mental, that could be understood, but I DO think Harris Co Courts need to be involved in some way, to make Sure that the needed help is given to this person. They can do this re a juvenile writ, and this also creates a 'paper trail', to further monitor their behavior. I am Not saying to persecute a person who needs help, but I DO think a lot of the young people who have executed these Horrific and deadly shootings DID show the kind of behavior that portrays more incidences, in the future. Thus, closer guidance needs to be implemented, legally. This is just my opinion.

LittleTexas : The child who made the threat could absolutely be charged with terroristic threat. But it happened in Harris County so that would never happen. *edit* I stand corrected, he would've had to be actually holding the weapon to get terroristic threat.

I believe… if the parents are "Present Parents" they know their kiddos. My kids went to school with kids that didn't have "Present Parents". Some would come over because they had never sat down at a dinner table with the parents. There was a lot of horrifying things that happened at their school… suicides, drinking and getting killed in accidents, etc. Their high school was very affluent.. kids of doctors, astronauts. 10th grade Girls wearing mink coats to school. Kids driving BMWs, Benz, souped up muscle cars, etc. No curfews. I had one Mom offer me $200 just to keep her daughter through the weekend. Couldn't care less about meeting me or what they would be doing or going.
