You can add cat litter to them to dry out the paint and dispose in your trash bin.
Let the paint dry completely in the can. It will be solid then. You can put it in your regular bagged trash. I seriously doubt they are going to start opening every bag to check and I've heard of other people getting away with much worse. Now if it is a oil paint cleaning product or extender, I would take that to the place they have for hazmat. Here is more info: Residents must utilize specialized City of Houston B.O.P.A. mobile events, permanent Houston Environmental Service Centers, or Harris County hazardous waste resources. Local Options & Semi-Annual Events: Kingwood B.O.P.A. Events: The City of Houston and Keep Kingwood Green periodically host mobile collection events at the Kingwood Park & Ride (3210 W. Lake Houston Pkwy, Kingwood, TX 77339). These events accept latex paint, used motor/cooking oil, antifreeze, and rechargeable/car batteries (with a 15-gallon/quart limit), but do not accept true household chemicals, oil-based paint, or electronics-heavy hazardous waste. Everyday Local Recycling for Non-Hazardous Items: Used Motor Oil: Drop off daily at local spots like O'Reilly Auto Parts (3219 W Lake Houston Pkwy) or Firestone (2166 Northpark Dr.).Rechargeable Batteries & CFL Bulbs: Accepted at local hardware stores and retail locations like Home Depot, Lowe's, or Best Buy. Permanent City & County Disposal Facilities. If you have unaccepted chemical waste, oil-based paints, or need disposal outside of mobile collection windows, use the permanent City of Houston drive-through facilities: North Environmental Service Center4.1(11)Environmental protection organization5614 Neches St Directions5614 Neches St, Building C, Houston, TX 77026
they would only take them if they were opened and NO paint was in them.
I have successfully thrown them away in my regular trash (also Best Trash).
Stir it and let it dry (the kitty litter absorbs the paint and drys fairly quickly (depending on how much paint is in the can). Once dry leave the lid off and throw it away with your regular trash. I've never had any problems with Best using this method.
Yes I agree.
I get the cheapest bag from wherever. The left over can be donated to a friend or shelter (I personally keep it on hand in the garage to throw on oil spills etc).
Dump all paint in one can, trash empty ones. If you ever need to paint something for fun or kids need paint for a project, you have paint to use. I've done it. Most of the paint colors had been neutral and blended well together. Used the paint for a homecoming float a while back, I didn't have to buy any, it's expensive 😳
Donnawisdom reacted #msg5986812Old Paint Cans Does anyone know where to dispose of old paint cans? Most have a little paint in them and Best Trash last time I checked said they would only take them if they were opened and NO paint was in them. I was thinking maybe a paint store or the paint section in a store, maybe Lowe's or Home Depot. Any ideas?

Guys if yall need cat litter to put in paint cans yall can get my used cat litter for free. It does the trick very well.
#msg5987191UptownGirl : Best thing to do is bury them behind the garage
#msg5987538Chow : Sounds like a bit of work; effective though. I take paint cans and buckets to our country place and throw them on a good hot fire.
