eighteen : Your tyres were hydroplaning. I.E., they were riding on a layer of water, not on the pavement. when this happens, don't use your brakes....

Olddog : I had taken my foot off the gas. I think I only applied the brakes whenever I was trying to regain control of the car. It all happened so fast I barely remember.

Usually when hydroplaning I can feel it and my car self corrects. This felt like something else, however you're probably right. My tires need replacing.
