Deputies locate lost kayaker on San Jacinto River 6/27/22

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to Jesse Jones Park located at 20634 Kenswick Drive in reference to a missing kayaker on 6/27/22.

The reportee advised he kayaked with a friend at Mercer Park and got separated on the creek. He made it to Jesse Jones Park at the intended exit point and had not seen his friend for over 2 hours.

With the assistance of DPS air support, the lost kayaker was located approximately 1 mile past IH59 in the San Jacinto River. He was in good condition but was unfamiliar with the creek system and had gotten lost.

When kayaking, make sure you have a plan, stay with others in your party, and have plenty of water to drink!

You would think he could figure it out once at the 59 bridge.

Sounds like he had a fun time to me. The good folks at the new RV park would have taken him in anyways...

@TownHubAdmin : not a good idea to swim or kayak in that water; it has deep suck holes. Those are not seen from the surface, but strong, downward current below the surface can be deadly.

@LittleTexas : I get the swimming part but kayaking around that area is a ton of fun

@ChesterAtkins : ...if you fall out of the kayak...just info in case you want it. your choice to kayak at will grew up around here and sadly, well versed in how that body of water claims lives.

Oh! I saw a kayaker on an orange kayak on the San Jacinto river by the 59 bridge on my way home yesterday, around 5pm. I thought it was so cool to see someone kayaking, wondered why he was by himself. Glad to know he's safe!!
