Reminder from firefighters to close the door when you sleep!

Did you know just a few simple acts can help to save your life in the event of a home fire?

Research has shown that a closed door can mean the difference between 1,000 degrees and 100 degrees in the event of a fire - that's a 900 degree difference! A closed door can also keep carbon monoxide levels at 1,000 PPM verses 10,000 PPM when a door is left open.

Because of synthetic materials, furniture, and construction, fire spreads faster than ever before. Closing doors helps stop the spread of fire!

I have always closed the hall door to where my daughters room is in case of fire.
My nose is so sensitive to the smell of smoke that I think I would wake up immediately. I knew my neighbors teenage daughter smoked long before she did.
I can't sleep with the bedroom door closed.

I taught fire fighting for the company I work for @TownHubAdmin, we would show a video (old VHS) about 2 girls dying from smoke inhalation...yes, it is heart breaking...every single time I played it...but it got the message across, those girls would have been alive had their door been closed. The fire never reached the 2nd floor. CLOSE YOUR DOORS!

@mutton :
That damn train engineer blew that damn whistle 25 times in a mile at 2:30am today. I've been up since. I can hear it a mile in either direction. Can't wait for the trees to fully bloom. I'm gonna have to find those tracks and give him a straight up middle finger.

luv2eatsushi : I'm glad you know this now, yes closed doors can save your life and/or give you time to escape through a window. surprised that you did not, but now you do. So that is good. also outside every bedroom door should have a smoke detector. also a carbon monoxide detector is good to have.

@Texasdad :

Yes have all of the above. Honestly had no idea. Have a lot of seniors around here, so will speak with them as well.

It's great advice but I can not sleep with a door closed. I've lived alone way too long in life. I know it's good safety for many reasons but just can't breathe. No lights, alarm clocks, etc. Nor can I sleep not facing the door. The head of the bed must be opposite the door. I hear every pop in the night.
The other night I cooked ribs late. They were great. However I could still smell them and literally choked on the smell. Lol gagged was more like it. I can't stand the smell of food after dinner.

@TownHubAdmin : Good advice. It's also a good idea to close inside doors when leaving home.
