3% Property Tax Cut for Harris County

For the third year in a row, Harris County Commissioner R. Jack Cagle and the Commissioners Court have approved a CUT in the Harris County Property Tax rate.

The rate was lowered by 3% to $58.135 per $100 appraised value. This could amount to at least $54 per year to a homeowner of a $300,000 home with a 20% homestead exemption.

It means the increases in the appraised values greatly exceeded 3 percent and a mandated greater decrease in the tax rate was avoided by Commission Garcia and the 2 R's on the court agreeing to a compromise.
