Humble ISD Announces Updated Graduation Dates, Times, and Locations

Humble ISD is relocating graduations from NRG Stadium, where the district originally intended to hold all of the high school graduations on May 29 except for Quest, after determining that NRG Stadium is no longer a viable option this school year.

Turner Stadium is close to home. Parking is free. Students have high school memories associated with Turner Stadium. The main advantage of NRG -- an unlimited number of guests per graduate -- was not applicable this school year. As a COVID measure, NRG would be reducing guest capacity and limiting admission by requiring tickets. Furthermore, Humble ISD will have more certainty regarding graduation dates and plans by using a facility that the school district owns.

“Humble ISD is planning memorable outdoor graduation ceremonies at Turner Stadium to celebrate our 2021 graduates,” Trey Kraemer, Assistant Superintendent for High Schools, said. “The graduations are scheduled for the night or the morning to avoid the heat of the day.”

Humble ISD plans to announce by May how many tickets will be available for each graduate after assessing the community health conditions in place in late spring. Graduates will not need a ticket. The tickets are for family and friends. TexanLive.com will generously provide free live streaming of the graduation ceremonies so that there is also the option to watch from home.

At a minimum, the district plans to issue the number of tickets issued last year: four tickets per Atascocita and Kingwood graduate; five tickets per Humble and Summer Creek graduate; and six tickets per Kingwood Park graduate. The number in each school’s Class of 2021 will determine the number of tickets to be distributed in compliance with occupancy limits and physical distancing precautions.

“Our hope is that we will be able to issue more tickets for the Turner Stadium graduations than we were able to issue in 2020,” Kraemer said.

The Turner Stadium graduations were scheduled with the largest high school, Atascocita, going first, and the smallest high school, Kingwood Park, going last to maximize efficiency with set up and staging for ceremonies held over five consecutive days

Humble ISD has updated graduation information for the Class of 2021. Graduations will be:

@KingwoodDotCom : We enjoyed the graduation at Turner last May. Easy to get in and out. The only complaint--we had to rush our post grad pictures because security was making everyone leave quickly. Not really taking tons of photos, but wanted a couple, (and I got them!) I understand with Covid, we have to be understanding. And here is a few of the photos I took during the graduation ......... 4951

@Jnet : They rush pictures at NRG as well. We went for my cousins graduation 2 years ago and since their was a graduation right after they kicked everyone out. I guess that's a common thing. 4951

@gigem09 : At NRG, never had any issues with this after KPARK graduations. Of course at that time everyone could walk around and search for friends, and take pics. But at Turner, it was like at a football game, ----everyone out immediately, that goes for you too Grandma and Grandpa! 4951

SHSU had their graduation at NRG on the 19th. They had NRG for the day and had three ceremonies with two colleges graduating at each ceremony. They allowed the spring graduates to walk as well so I think the number for my son's class was around 1,000. The ceremony was about two hours and then a couple hours to sanitize before the next ceremony. They allowed six tickets per graduate and assigned seating with social distancing. No commencement speaker just push them through like cattle. Of course masks were required. So glad some places are doing a more normal graduation ceremony because it is a milestone to be remembered. 4951
