New Caney ISD Back to School 2020-2021 Plans

New Caney ISD will deliver instruction completely online for at least the first four weeks of the 2020-21 school year to best protect the welfare of our students and staff. Online instruction will begin Aug. 10 and run through at least September 4. This decision was made in accordance with recommendations by Montgomery County health officials and guidance provided by the Texas Education Agency.

The district is hopeful that a face-to-face learning option will be possible after Labor Day. The district will re-evaluate circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic as the school year begins. Decisions about beginning on-campus, face-to-face instruction will be made with the welfare of students and staff in mind first. The district will continue to work within the guidance provided by TEA as well as local and state health officials.

Online Instruction
New Caney ISD will begin school August 10 utilizing a fully online, distance learning model. Instruction will be delivered completely online with New Caney ISD teachers providing real-time (synchronous) and self-paced (asynchronous) instruction.

Synchronous learning is two-way, real-time, live instruction between teachers and students online.
Asynchronous learning is a curricular experience where students engage in the learning materials at their own pace and will include regular interaction with the teacher online.
New Caney ISD is committed to ensuring that all students have an equitable experience and access to high quality instruction.

Online learning is available to students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Daily attendance is required.
New Caney ISD grading policy will be followed.
Will utilize the district's online learning management system, Canvas.
Instruction will be aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
District provided, high quality, remote learning resources will be utilized during instruction.
Students may have specific times to attend synchronous classes online for instruction.
Students will receive direct instruction from their teachers and will participate in cooperative and independent work.
Focus lessons will be recorded and available online for access at any time.
At the high school level, course offerings include core content courses, Honors, AP courses, and electives.
All required courses for graduation will be offered through the distance learning format.
Special education services will be provided as specified in the Individualized Education Plan.
School counselors will be available to meet with students and parents online.
Will provide training and support for parents.
With exceptions made for those with documented health risks, teachers will deliver online instruction from a classroom or designated workspace in real-time for parts of the school day, complete with established health and safety practices.

While it is not possible to eliminate all risk of furthering the spread of COVID-19, the district is taking steps to reduce the risks to students, teachers, and staff. New Caney ISD will follow state and federal guidelines, rely on local health experts for guidance in decision-making, and adopt reasonable practices for safe, effective learning environments conducive to pursuing the district’s mission to prepare students for the REALITY of tomorrow.

Updates will be posted on the back-to-school page on New Caney ISD's website and sent directly to parents through the district's notification system.

In an interview yesterday, Bill Gates told Norah O'Donnell that he would send his kids back if they were in school... that makes it all OK right?
