The first fall production, "Playing With Fire (After Frankenstein)," will run Oct. 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The drama will take place on the college's Main Stage located in the Administration and Performing Arts Center (APA).

"The original novel and traditional play versions of 'Frankenstein' that we all know and love toy with the ideas of morality and the human condition," said Kalliope Vlahos, stage director of this production, and the technical director and designer at LSC-Kingwood. "The play we are producing this fall furthers that exploration by diving into Victor Frankenstein's psyche as he confronts his self-made nemesis, Creature, who is historically labeled the monster."

In "Playing With Fire (After Frankenstein)," an exhausted and dying Victor Frankenstein has finally tracked down his Creature in the lonely, frozen tundra of the North Pole. Frankenstein is determined to right the wrong he has committed by, at last, destroying the malignant evil he believes he has created. But first, Frankenstein must deal with his own responsibility and guilt-for, as their fascinating confrontation develops, it is evident that the Creature has become a pathetic, lonely, and even sensitive being who wants only to find love. Furthermore, it reveals that Frankenstein, by intruding into the very secrets of life, is truly the evil one.

"This play asks the audience to decide who the real monster is- Creature or Frankenstein himself," Vlahos said. "I feel as though this psychological thriller will not only entertain our audiences with a classic Halloween tale, but it will take them on an emotional journey of self-discovery. It may also make them jump out of their seats every once in a while."

The main characters in "Playing With Fire (After Frankenstein)" are Frankenstein, played by returning actor Bruce Arrick, and Creature performed by Kieran Kitchen, a freshman actor. The remaining cast include returning actress Karina Barrett as Professor Krempe, the phantom memory of Frankenstein's most valued professor; and freshman actors Kayla Garza as Elizabeth, the phantom memory of Frankenstein's murdered wife; Erik Moor, as Victor, the phantom memory of Frankenstein himself; Phillip Jenkins as Adam, the phantom memory of Creature when Frankenstein first created him.

The crew consists of Bethanie Lege, calling stage manager; Stephen Bradley, backstage state manager; Doucia Kweta, backstage assistant; Madison Olson, lighting tech; Rachel Lee, sound tech and makeup tech; Colton Callihan, projection tech; and Taylor Kenney, specialty prop designer.

"I hope the audiences walk away from this production thoroughly entertained, emotionally enriched, and with an urge to read the original novel of 'Frankenstein' once again!" Vlahos stated.

"Playing With Fire (After Frankenstein)" by Barbara Field is produced by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service Inc. in New York. Tickets are $14 for general admission, $12 for seniors age 55 and older, and $7 for students. For more information, call the LSC-Kingwood Box Office at 281-312-1532.
