HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Benavidez and Officer G. Anderson reported:

"The victim (hispanic male) was operating a black Kawasaki 1000 motorcycle and was at a stop sign on Lake Crescent Drive facing northbound at the intersection of Kingwood Drive. As the motorcycle proceeded into the intersection, it was struck by a gray Chevrolet Camaro traveling eastbound on Kingwood Drive. The victim died at the scene. The female driver of the Camaro, who was determined not to be impaired, was questioned and released."

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The investigation is ongoing. 4951

@ChesterAtkins : This is why I don't like to speed on KW Drive or Northpark. There are certain blind spots that are hard enough to cross anyway, then add someone speeding and it's dowright scary. I refuse to cross over by the little Walmart/McDonalds just for that reason. 4951

@Maisey1 : Lake Crescent the stop sign is not blind at all, though, which is weird.
There's a long straightaway on the eastbound side, can see that stop sign easily, and anyone at Lake Crescent stop sign heading north could have seen traffic coming for a good quarter mile. 4951

@Reivax : That's true - also, when I drove there, most of the cars/officers appeared to be closer to the rise where KW drive crosses over the greenbelt. Circled is the stopsign, X is where the police were investigating. 4951

This is such a sad tragedy. I really miss riding my motorcycle but I'll probably never have another one. I rode for almost 50 years and found it very enjoyable. However, with all people not paying attention to surroundings I find it very frightening. 4951

@buffaloglenn : Wonder if the driver of the car didn't have her lights on. 4951

@Andreweggplant : well he was just crossing KWD. She T-boned him.

Something else I'm wondering about this is how she was found to not be impaired and let go... no blood/urine test(s) to verify this? I have known some pretty slick people who "play it cool" so well you would never know they're under the influence of something 4951

@ChesterAtkins : Surely a blood/urine/breathalyzer test is required before someone is "let go"?? I just can't image them not doing at LEAST that much. 4951
