The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Anderson Road in Kingwood. The suspect initially barricaded himself in a residence, but through the efforts of SWAT and the Crisis Negotiators (CNT), the suspect ultimately surrendered peacefully and without further incident.
According to reports from MCSO, at about 2:15am on 7/16/19, Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Anderson Road and Northpark Drive in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound.
During the investigation, it was learned that the victim and his wife were at the residence of her ex-husband. As the victim's wife entered the property, she was confronted by her ex-husband, identified as Jeffrey Michael Pitts, a 52-year-old white male from Kingwood. The victim (identified as Daniel Sweeten Jr., a 50-year-old white male from Montgomery, Texas.) remained in their vehicle parked in the roadway.
As an argument ensued between Jeffrey and his ex-wife concerning a vehicle, he reportedly shoved her aside, and fired multiple rounds from a handgun striking the vehicle Daniel was sitting in. Daniel was subsequently struck by a bullet in the abdomen, and a bullet grazed his head. Daniel was able to drive away from the residence, and call 911. He was later transported to Conroe Regional Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
When Deputies responded, Jeffrey initially refused to exit the residence, at which time SWAT and CNT were called to the scene. As additional resources were arriving, Jeffrey surrendered peacefully.
Jeffrey was transported to the Montgomery County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault, each charge carrying a $50,000.00 dollar bond.
