I've seen a thread on here about credit card skimming at the Kingwood 59/Northpark Kroger and I have something to add. The incident that happened today is now the second time within approximately 3 months that my card info has been stolen and transmitted to another Kroger on another side of town. I received a text notification before I even left the parking lot! The first time, the cards linked to both my checking and backup accounts were skimmed so I closed and replaced them both. Now I've just had to close and replace my main checking account debit card again! I don't yet know if any of my other accounts have been affected. WTF??

@Wblack : I had a debit card's formation stolen and it was used at a Kroger's in Houston. Kroger's security offered absolutely no help at all. None.

When mine was stolen last year I had not gotten gas at Kroger. They did shop at Kroger though and used the self checkout and stayed under 100 so noone would ask questions.

@Jnet : I thought about going to Kroger to complain but I saw in all the other comments that nothing was ever done about it.

@dotti573 : For this incident I was inside Kroger in Kingwood and my information was scanned and transmitted to another Kroger where they physically duplicated my card and actually swiped it to buy gas for 2 nearly identical transactions of over $70 each!

Just buy a refillable Kroger gift card and use that to gas up. That way your account information from the banks etc is never available.

So your information was stolen inside the store and not at a gas pump? That sounds like an inside job?

@Wblack : Did you checkout at the self checkout or at a normal register?

@Wblack : Kroger's pretty much told me .......oh well.........no help at all!I ran around trying to get help. They eliminate security tape fast. Not worth the headache, just took a loss. And I avoid Kroger because of this.

@Jnet : Not going to show on security tape anyway... it is in the transmission from the machine you swipe your card in and your bank..

Never take a loss, save your receipts and take it up with the bank. I never use a PIN number and it is treated like a credit card and it can be disputed..

@gigem09 : Checked out at a normal register. There were 2 strange occurrences that I think could be possibly linked to this. One was a very odd cart pusher who was standing at the urinal in the men's restroom but not using it, and then left in a hurry after receiving a phone call. Saw this same individual again while walking through the store. The other was what seemed to be a manager who hovered at the register while I was checking out. This person did not leave until I did.

@Jnet :

Most banks will cover loses. They will even put funds in to cover you during investigation if its seriouse enough.(They got me for 2000 once) I have never had a bank or CC not cover a legit fraud. And I never have had them even ask for proof. They can usually tell if its a legit fraud. The store it happens at will NOT cover loses.

@Wblack : Very odd. I will make sure to keep an eye out when I'm there.

@Burnsway : Yes, I know that. This was a debit card from Walmart. I had deposited money to pay some bills, and in twenty minutes it was gone. I had paid the large bills, and checked the balance and discovered the loss. Walmart was of no use and Kroger was equally bad. I use a bank debit card usually, but used this Walmart card to send money to my son, whom at the time who was out of state. I could not believe how blatant the theft was and how neither grocer helped. HPD and Harris County Sheriff both claimed the other should be investigating. I stick to a bank debit card, and keep minimum balance, as that can be compromised as well. Thieves find ways to take money. Have to keep diligent!
