A man being taken to Kingwood Medical Center via ambulance hopped in the driver seat upon arrival and then led police on an hour-long chase through Humble and Huffman.
According to Assistant Chief Theis at Humble PD, a male patient stole an ambulance at the Kingwood Medical Center and led officers and deputies on a chase through Humble and into the Crosby area early Thursday morning.
The suspect was communicating with police over the radio while driving the ambulance. The chase covered nearly 18 miles and reached speeds up to 80 mph, before HPD (Houston) units were able to use spike strips to puncture the tires and disable the vehicle.
Humble PD, HPD and the Harris County PCT 4 Constable's Office were all involved in the pursuit, which came to an end near Crosby.
The suspect was very combative with officers and a taser had to be deployed to get him detained. A charge of Evading Arrest with a Vehicle will be requested by Humble PD.
No officers were injured during the incident. All vehicles (besides the ambulance) escaped unscathed as well. 4951
