According to the Houston Police Department, on Monday, April 2, at around 2:05 AM, a man was struck and killed by a train near Hamblen Road in Kingwood.
Based on statements from the engineer running the Union Pacific train involved in the incident, the engineer spotted a man on the tracks around 2 AM and attempted to stop the train. Unfortunately, the train did not stop in time and ran over the man.
Houston Fire and Police were dispatched to the scene, at which time the man was pronounced deceased.
After an initial inquiry by HPD revealed there was no foul play, the case was handed over to Union Pacific's own investigation team. Union Pacific has a police department staffed with more than 220 officers called Special Agents. The department is responsible for all Union Pacific locations across 32,000 miles of track in 23 states. Sort of like the Metro Police here in Houston.
The deceased male was carrying an ID of a 41-year-old hispanic male. His name is being withheld by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences until he can be accurately identified and next of kin can be informed. 4951
