just yesterday while shopping in PA the wallyworld we went to. has a Friendly's on the far end of the parking lot. I haven't been to one in over 25 yrs

CantStandTex, is it a man thing?  The whole I can't breathe around the candles thing?  My  dh makes a massive production of this when we go near a candle store. And heaven forbid I ever take him with me to Bed Bath & Beyond.  O M GHe coughs and says he can't breathe.  It isn't like we are in Kirlands.  The last time I took my oldest son into Kirklands, he was like, Wow, do people that work here get lung cancer?  You can't even breathe in this place.  Needless to say our shopping trip was very short.

I miss the whole downtowns. We use to have the best drinks at the pharmacy. The sweetest oldest ladies worked there, and could make you an orange aid, or a cherry coke that was to die for. Next door you could grab a hot dog, or further down, a sandwich at the cafe. We had an Ace to shop at or Woolworths. And the theater. A trip downtown was so much fun. I miss all of that.Malls today are not the same.

Bite your tongue!In our small backwater town, this was all we had.  It was 30 miles to Raleigh, and no one made that drive unless your life depended on it!In high school, when we all realized we could be at a big mall in 30 minutes we went all the time.  My mom, still to this day will not drive to Raleigh to shopBut I am glad we lived in a small town, now that I look back.  We would walk downtown and hang out all day.  Everyone knew who you were, so you always were on your best behavior.  And it was safe to walk downtown too.  Things are way different now.  Well the theater is still there, and so are 2 of the old cafe's.  Everything else has changed.
