Medical Insurance screw ups I would like to share this with you all. Last year I had to have a scan done of my Carotid artery to make sure they were not clogged. I had a problem with one of my eyes and this scan was done to rule out other problems. Thank God my arteries are clear. Anyway, this all took place last year in July. I just now received a bill form the group who read the scan. This group is not even in the Houston area. Of the $450.00 bill the insurance only paid $14.65. My insurance paid everyone else very well. So, I called the number on the bill and of course no one ever answered. At that point I went on line to see if I could find an alternate number for this group. I finally got ahold of someone. They looked at my account and low and behold I should have only been billed $26.02. They forgot to deduct the amount the insurance disapproved. It really does pay to check into your statements when you have medical stuff done. I know it is a little time consuming but It can save you a bundle of money! 4951

It does! I received a bill for $400ish almost a year after having my son. I called and they had something wrong with my insurance. They sent it to BCBS but had the wrong group number or something. They resent it and it was covered 100%. 4951
TEXASGIRLMAMMA : How is this a medical insurance screw up? Seems it is a provider office screw up. Your insurance did its job
TEXASGIRLMAMMA : I am glad you got it straightened out. I have learned YOU are your best advocate when it comes to your medical conditions (billing included).
TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Exactly! That is why sometimes I push my doctors when in the past I feel they are blowing off my symptoms. I have also changed doctors due to that. I know my body and I know when something is not right when it. And I don't just want a pill that will make my symptoms go away, I want to know what is causing my symptoms and treat the cause!
Pays to look at your EOB next to the bill and ensure they line up.
TEXASGIRLMAMMA : My SIL throws the first statement from the doctor/etc. in the trash. He says there is always another one and usually it is less/correct. I've taken to doing that myself. If it is more than my co-pay of $20 it goes away until next statement.
