Why do we make/have laws if they are not enforced ? a) The fireworks ban in Houston b) Cellphone texting/reading while driving. I have never seen or heard of anyone being ticketed for a violation.

Theoldman : I think it should be enforced but, I do understand it's actually not as pressing as other crimes such as murder, kidnapping, steeling, and selling drugs. Today, I saw a cop driving down 59 looking at the computer in his car and looking at his cell phone. He was not setting a good example!

billcherie2 : S T O P is actually painted on the greenbelt paths where the meet the roads. Still doesn't stop folks especially the "speed bikers" trying to get a good workout. Sadly, if they get hit....their gonna need alot more help than cardio workout.

Theoldman :
That's the nature of having jobs for full time lawmakers.

Their job is to make new laws, not to consider how to fund enforcement. LEOs have an unrealistic job. The best they can do is triage.

They also make laws knowing that many law followers will simply follow them. Passing laws moves the needle on human behavior. 100% compliance and 100% enforcement are equally unrealistic.

luv2eatsushi : it is a beautiful day, but seeing kids on 35 mile an hour scooter scares the **** out of me, especially when they're not wearing helmets and no adult is in sight, research the accidents that happen on these things, not to mention it's against city ordinance for 16 and under to even be on these, the reasons for that is all there is to know

Law enforcement does not have the manpower to run the fireworks calls.
It is a low priority call, along with barking dogs and loud music.
Every other call takes priority.
Hell when I patrolled Kingwood priority to annexation, I could always find a drunk to arrest instead of running those calls...

A lot if them are safer on the greenbelts than the streets.

billcherie2 : Probably not but I really think if the HOA's would invest a few bucks in signs to put out at all entry ways to the subdivision a week before saying NO FIREWORKS ALLOWED it would be a constant reminder with no excuse. Then rent a cop for the night to patrol. It's not rocket science to do something about this.
