Funny you mention this because my birth certificate name is different also. Off by one letter and I have no idea why. My whole life I used an "a" instead of a "e". The e had an accent above it even. This mystery will go unsolved. 😏
I didn't find out until I was 16 that I had been spelling my name different than the way it was spelled on my birth certificate. On the outside of the birth certificate envelope, in my mother's handwriting, was my first name with one L and 2 Ss, and my middle name with two Ns. Upon examining the birth certificate inside, I found the nurse had printed my first name with 2 Ls & 1 S, & my middle name had only 1 N. When my mother saw it, she immediately made arrangements for me to miss school the next day to go to the courthouse to have the spelling of my name changed to the way she had originally written it. She paid $2.

When I got married I dropped my given middle name and put my maiden name as my legal middle name. At the time (maybe it still is this way) all you had to do was put your maiden name on your marriage certificate along with your husbands name and it becomes official. My birth certificate and my social security card still carry my old middle name but all of my other legal forms and cards carry my maiden name as my middle. My sisters did the same thing when they married. It was simple and I have never encountered any issues.
