Looks like it was drawn by flood insurance companies so they can screw homeowners blind with outrageous premiums! IMO, it's BS!

Thank you Bob for your continued diligence. Upstream development is scary.

I tried to crop the old map and new map and make them look alike to more directly compare…the underlying maps are slightly different, and I had to tweak the colors to match…but here is a before and after.

If you notice, the dark blue = floodway region grew by quite a bit, and the light blue = 100 year flood zone took over a lot of previous green area = 500 year flood zone.

mgmdad :
If you visit the interactive map, there is a slider to show 'old map' -> 'new map'. Gives a better idea for your area specifically. www.maapnext.org/Int eractive-Map

BobRehak : my dad moved to Houston in the early 50's and he said that the area was a swamp. He used to duck hunt in the spot that is now Forest Cove. A swamp will always be just that, regardless of how much sand and dirt is used to build it up. Eventually it will turn back into what God meant it to be - a swamp.

And if you're not in a flood plain the insurance companies will still rate you based on if your "grid" is in one
