Land line phone companies in Kingwood? We have cell phones of co
Land line phone companies in Kingwood? We have cell phones of course, but we're one of the last to hold on to our land line phone, mainly because it still works during power outages/hurricanes. Lately we've been having a lot of problems with it, I suspect because they are not maintaining the lines since everyone relies on their cell phones instead. The provider was originally Sprint, then Century Link, and now Brightspeed. Are there any other providers in Kingwood that use the actual physical lines instead of through the internet? Going through the internet does us no good in a power outage since it is out too.

cardinalsong : My mother has Brightspeed and they are horrible. Cannot even talk over that line some days because of the noise. Had to call her on her cellphone many times. Months ago I called and got someone else's answering machine greeting! So messed up!
cardinalsong : I was wondering about this recently too. My parents have Brightspeed and their service is often very spotty, and they have had some other issues with the service over this past year. I was going to look into switching them to something else, since they are not very good about knowing how to use a cell phone.
UptownGirl : Perhaps because we do not use it, other than to get messages. It also does not ring most of the time, because all unknown callers are blocked. It is just there for emergencies.

cardinalsong : To my knowledge, Brightspeed is the only option for a true land line. Others can provide voice over IP, via coaxial or fiber optic cable, but those are not true land lines as they require power and internet service to work.
cardinalsong : We still have a landline thru Optimum. When they are out of service, so is our phone. We depend on cell phones during storms.
