Fast forward to 1970, and Richard Nixon ramps up the War on Drugs, putting cannabis in the strictest category (because distraction from protests) and yes, even making Elvis Presley an honorary federal narcotics agent after Elvis asked for a badge. It has happened again and again. Longest war the US has been in is the "war on drugs". Politics, propaganda, pop culture and decades of consequences that we're still sorting out today.

The tobacco lobby tried to ban vapes with any "components" manufactured in "Any Country thats deemed a national secruity threat" with some other jargon, but the Big Tobacco companies pushed back against this because all their vapes, VUSE, NJOY & all big tobacco brands, all have components made in china. What happened? They passed a ban in Texas. Many of manufacturers moved millions in resources to create facilities in the USA to ship empty devices into the USA and to use USA staff to fill these devices with USA e-liquid.These brands are literally jumping through hoops created by the state of Texas. Yet these shops are still getting raided. Its INSANE.
