Yes, I have heard about it, as a major menace. Some places have tried to burn it out to destroy the roots. But, in a hot dry environment that is not viable. We need to get a pick ax gang & go at it, or what remains of our Liveable Forests will be gone.😢

ZMAN : I think this is the same thing. In either case or is growing everywhere and has thorns. When I had my house, there was some in one is my flower beds. I pulled it up for years and it always came. Finally my son got a shovel and dug deep down. He found it was coming from tubers the size of a newborn. There were about 8 of them that he dug up. I moved shortly after so I don't know if that got rid of it or not.

You have to dig down deep and get the tubers.

I wonder if what my friend did on her property would work. She combined three back yards and has a mini garden of Eden back there, certified by National Wild Bird foundation. She never used anything poisonous but had some invasive plants taking over. A landscaper put herbicide in bags and tied them onto the tips of the plants to kill them. This isn't practical on the Greenbelt but could work in your yard if you don't want to kill surrounding green.

So after more research, I see Kudzu does not have thorns. What I took a picture of and had in my yard is also all over the trails. It is some kind of briar.

They make jelly out of it in north and south carolina. Pretty good.

Thanks for posting about this topic. Butler hates vines and pulls all vines out as soon as they show up. This sounds very troubling. I would hate to lose our trees in Kingwood!

When we rented the conroe house I set to clearing the house, fence and yard. It was everywhere and I literally had to dig, pull and gave up and told our gardener to make sure to cut it and spray it every two weeks. It finally stopped trying to attach to the house but I'd cut it out of the azaleas and other bushes.
