Kingwood Sleep Lab

Has anyone used Kingwood Sleep Lab? Specifically for a sleep study.

Any reviews?

I need an at home study & new machine and I don't like my previous pulmonologist so I'm looking to change doctors.

Thanks! 👍

BrendaT has used the lab for a sleep study there. I have heard first hand that the doc is not good and have had experience with their billing and that is the wife and that was an experience!

If you can get a different pulmonologist and just use the sleep lab, you could do that. Ours is downtown and he is amazing.

SteveT : Ugh. Yeah I need to use their doctor. They can get me on quick and I need a new machine like....yesterday lol.

I have the best insurance on the market so its going to be my copay and nothing more.

I'll keep all that in mind. I appreciate it. 🩷

Just be careful of add-ons to your bill. Our gastro is over there and the sleep doc is his landlord and the staff had some tales to tell too.

BTW, our gastro is awesome and there is a great heart guy in with the gastro too if you ever need either one!

Good luck!!!

SteveT : Yikes. So can I just use the sleep lab & not the doctor?

I just need an at home study, not in house

StormChaser : From what I recall, you have been on a machine for years? Have you had an in-house lab or two in those years? Usually, the at home will give you a baseline and then they require you to the do in-house.

If you have a good PCP who can document, then I would go for the full in-house right away.

You also then have to look at insurance doing it as a rental vs a purchase and then it is YOURS. Usually beginning people who do the at home get the rental and the ones with a long history then just get it purchased through insurance. You need a good doc who can do that with documentation. Doesn't always have to be a specialist.

I used them a couple of times when Dr Grogan was running it. I don't know who's running it now since Grogan retired. The first time I had a sleep study done, the facility was new, and it was a relatively good experience (as sleep labs go, anyway). It was better than the one in the Luby's center, anyway.

We're also unhappy with our pulmonologists, Dr Kesavan and Dr Jayaraman at Memorial Hermann behind the Kingwood hospital, so we're looking for a new one also. I'm going to try Dr Salman Alim, also behind the hospital, who has great reviews.

SteveT : Yeah I've had a machine for 13 years. My last 2 sleep studies have been at home but the last one was 6 years ago. My insurance does not think the ones done in lab are necessary (and I agree) so I'm sure it will be done in home again.

My numbers have consistently been the same over the years. It's probably better now bc I've lost 50 pounds in the last 8 months.

Edit my first one was in house bc it was for diagnostic purposes

Yes, you can just get the monitor from Kingwood Sleep Lab but use a different doctor. My pulmonologist just sent the orders to the sleep lab. My husband got his sleep monitor at the Northeast Hospital in Humble instead, and I thought that was better equipment and more professionally handled than what I experienced with the Kingwood lab.

This is the pulmonologist my DH used a couple of years ago. We liked him but don't have an ongoing problem and have not seen him recently.

Ok so I asked my general practitioner to send in a referral to the lab. This should hopefully bypass their physician 🤞

I sure do hope so. I was so glad I could do a home study because there's no way I would sleep in a sleep lab.

cardinalsong : Yeah I'm not a huge fan of it. Especially since its usually you and the tech who watches you sleep from cameras all over the room. 😬😬😬

The guy was super nice but..... he was still a guy.

I didn't sleep well at all and I woke up wide awake at 3am so he let me go home early.
