It's all Astros Jacket Lady's fault!!!

donnatella : I hope she see's this and feels badly. That said, people like her would probably celebrate that they got the prize just in time.

Sad to hear. I love the concept, however if a vendor isn't present and in control of their booth and collecting their own money after paying space fees, it's ripe for theft and failure. I think mixing imported mass produced junk with handmade products is counter productive also. You either want to be a department store or a makers market. Also the artist/ maker being present builds short and long term relationships. I always have a problem when I'm asked to pay for space and then a 60/40 split with 60 for the space owner. Remember, no one will as hard as you to sell your art/ products.

Genesis :
An artist crafts market. They sold space for you to sell. You can't sit and work your booth and they sell and collect your money. Not enough eyes on shoppers (aka shop lifters). They are in business to collect space fees, not selling. They didn't care if you made a profit as you only had control of what you put in the booth. Plus they had mass produced socks etc from China. If I wanted to sell scarves, I could go to harwin and buy them wholesale bulk and put them at a space for four times what I paid. However, with few customers, they wouldn't sell anyway.
An artist will sell more and build a customer base if they are connecting with buyers. Some person making minimum wage doesn't care if you profit, or if your inventory is stolen.

CatalinaKitKat : It's a huge space...I wonder how much the monthly rent is on it...

Joe : That space is 37,528 sq/ft. My guess is the annualized rent is around $500k a year in the 5th year of their lease. The lease doesn't expire until 2032, but maybe the landlord has something lined up and will give them a break on the final 6 years.

With KW retail space almost 100% leased, that big space could make for a very valuable entry into the trade area for a national chain. It will be interesting to see what happens.
