Kingwood: Health Officials Investigating 54 Cyclospora Cases in
Kingwood: Health Officials Investigating 54 Cyclospora Cases in Harris and Montgomery Counties Health officials are investigating a rise in cyclospora infections across Harris and Montgomery counties. The latest reported breakdown lists 38 cases in unincorporated Harris County, 21 within Houston and 16 in Montgomery County. The source of the illnesses has not yet been determined. Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that can cause intestinal illness after a person consumes contaminated food or water. Symptoms may begin 2 to 14 days after exposure and can include persistent watery diarrhea, abdominal cramps, bloating, nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite and weight loss. Residents experiencing symptoms should contact a healthcare provider. Harris County Public Health says diagnosis requires testing a stool sample, and multiple samples may sometimes be needed. Case totals may change as the investigation continues.
