>> Spork : It just comes off as you making up inflammatory stuff that's clearly not true. I guess that's one way to discuss politics. Yes, Kingwood doesn't represent everyone. But you used this broad brush of painting protesters as mentally ill, "screaming at the sky", etc., when you have a case staring you in the face in your own back yard, that the protests obviously aren't that...just seems like you are making a false and bad-faith attempt to smear people for exercising their right to protest.

Joe :
No. I'm making fun of the mindset that leads people to believe such exhibitions are either therapeutic or persuasive. I've done the same with Jan 6ers

The reasoning behind taking such actions just doesn't resonate with me.

I cannot think of any time in my life where such behavior was influential or inspirational. No one has ever shared a first hand example with me where they were inspired or influenced by it.

So I poke fun of things that make no sense to me. I can only muster laughter for some of the ridiculous notions behind human behavior.

Ruger5 : Really? It was most likely your generation or close to it that introduce many socialist principles to this country. It may not be what you interpret socialism is but in our mixed economy, we have programs that follow it.

olemiss1968 : Not us - the leaders. I would had rather saved for myself - SS especially. We would've opted out of ss when Bush first toyed with the notion.

That said - I'm not opposed to common sense socialism (if that's what you choose to call it). Im opposed to the kind of socialism where a loaf of bread is a real find. Lets not forget - Capitalism turns luxuries into necessities - socialism turns necessities into luxuries. How's cuba doing? ….and Venezuela - and many other countries. You want THAT here? I don't.

Ruger5 :
Broad brush strokes again. So let's do a basic look at the spectrum of political ideologies. You might be surprised what you can learn. We'll start at extreme left and go to extreme right. There's a few that are cross spectrum that I threw in at the end.

FAR LEFT

1. Anarcho-Communism

Core belief: Abolition of both the state and private property; collective ownership of resources and direct democracy.
Economy: Stateless, classless, moneyless society based on mutual aid.
Examples: Ideals of Kropotkin; some factions in the Spanish Civil War.

2. Communism / Marxism

Core belief: Abolition of capitalism; establishment of a classless, stateless society where the means of production are collectively owned.
Economy: Central or planned economy in the transition phase ("socialism").
Key figures: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Lenin, Mao.

3. Socialism

Core belief: The means of production should be owned or controlled by society (the state, cooperatives, or workers).
Economy: Mixed or planned; greater redistribution, welfare, and equality.
Variants: Democratic socialism, libertarian socialism, eco-socialism.

CENTER-LEFT

4. Social Democracy

Core belief: Capitalism should be reformed to reduce inequality and ensure welfare and workers' rights.
Economy: Market economy regulated by the state, with strong welfare systems.
Examples: Nordic model (Sweden, Norway).

5. Progressivism

Core belief:Support for social reform, equality, and government intervention in social justice, environment, and economy.
Focus:Civil rights, healthcare, education, environmental protection.

CENTER

6. Centrism

Core belief: Balance between social equality and economic freedom; pragmatic compromise between left and right.
Economy: Mixed market economy; moderate government intervention.
Examples: Liberal democracies emphasizing moderation and pluralism.

CENTER-RIGHT

7. Liberalism (Classical / Economic Liberalism)

Core belief: Individual liberty, private property, free markets, limited government.
Economy: Capitalist with minimal state interference.
Modern variants: Neoliberalism, libertarian liberalism.

8. Conservatism

Core belief:Tradition, social stability, gradual change, respect for institutions.
Economy: Support for capitalism and private enterprise.
Social policy:Often emphasizes family, religion, and national identity.

RIGHT

9. Right-Wing Populism

Core belief:National sovereignty, opposition to elites and globalization, often socially conservative.
Themes: Anti-immigration, nationalism, skepticism of supranational bodies (e.g., EU).

10. Libertarianism

Core belief: Maximize individual freedom; minimize government in all areas (economic and personal).
Economy: Laissez-faire capitalism.
Variants:Right-libertarianism (property rights focus), left-libertarianism (anti-corporate focus).

FAR RIGHT

11. Reactionism/Traditionalism

Core belief:*Return to older social orders or monarchies; opposition to modern liberal or secular values.
Examples: Monarchists, some religious fundamentalists.

12. Fascism

Core belief: Authoritarian nationalism, centralized power, suppression of dissent, unity of state and people.
Economy: Corporatist-private property allowed but directed by the state.
Examples: Mussolini's Italy, Franco's Spain.

13. National Socialism (Nazism)

Core belief: Fascism plus racial hierarchy and ethno-nationalism; anti-communist and anti-liberal.
Economy: State-directed capitalism serving national/racial goals.
Example: Hitler's Germany.

CROSS-SPECTRUM IDEOLOGIES (Don't fit neatly on a line)

Green Politics) Environmental sustainability, social justice, grassroots democracy (usually center-left).

Populism) Focus on "the people vs. the elite"; can appear on left or right.

Libertarian Socialism) Merges socialism with anti-authoritarianism (left-libertarian).

Third Positionism) Blends far-left and far-right elements (e.g., nationalism + anti-capitalism).

Technocracy) Rule by experts or scientists instead of politicians (neutral on left-right scale).

How did I lose you. It's a textbook chart of political ideologies. Not a debate. Perhaps you can try and make an effort not to make the complex simple.
