Joe : It is exactly as I explained it. That said, if not one person from outside Kingwood shopped here no business that people really like would go out of business. Btw, you should have learned by now when to take some of my comments with a grain of salt …..not all is meant deeply literal. C'mon, you know I'm a cranky old lady who hates this urban sprawl ……I mean some of this kinda sorta light hearted. Not mean spirited in other words.

teatime : no, I get it……that's how it works …..but Kingwood's population is business sustainable, imo. If I owned a business you can believe I'd want shoppers from all corners of the state - Im speaking as a local consumer. Im just so sad about the loss of the once livable forest. Once so serenely quiet and sparce. I had no clue how stuffed it would one day become. I am aware tho there's no escaping urban sprawl - nowhere we could have moved where it wouldnt have found us. So we make the best of it. Part of the way I make the best is to vent 😊. Tag you guys are it 😁

It's going to be a traffic nightmare upfront Kingwood😢! They will be coming from the north, the south, the west and the east!

Ruger5 : You are being wayyyyy over sensitive if you think this spot being occupied by a new restaurant has anything to do with the "loss of the once livable forest." That retail center has been there forever, nothing is getting worse by their addition to the community.

I can't wait to have another option for breakfast. I love having breakfast out at a sit down place that is not fast food.

teatime : Nope, can't have it both ways…..which is why I vent 😊. It helps. I disagree on whether kingwood's population could sustain it's business community. I'd be willing to bet it already does. With the exception of popular national chains like Trader Joe's. The restaurant chains we have here are everywhere ….folks wont drive into KW from surrounding areas because they don't need to, same for the grocery stores. These businesses are always packed……. with locals.

It's a wonderful feature of Kingwood that we don't have crazy amounts of traffic just passing through, because Kingwood is essentially a dead end traffic wise. You don't pass through Kingwood on the way to somewhere else. As bad as traffic can be in our town, it's really almost all destination traffic - people specifically coming to and leaving Kingwood. Imagine how bad traffic would be if you had transient traffic passing through as well. Unfortunately, that "benefit" of no transient traffic has a downside in that it limits the potential customer base for our local businesses to essentially residents and their visitors. There's nobody just passing through to stop in on their way. That makes it much tougher to survive as a business here in Kingwood. You're limited to a large extent to Kingwood residents only. Our two main inlet roads, Northpark and Kingwood Drive, are essentially dead ends when they reach the east fork of the San Jac River.

Occasionally people will talk about extending Kingwood drive through / across East End park to connect with Huffman...people seem to oppose it for this issue, that you'd get an increase in pass-thru traffic on KW drive. Councilman Dave Martin promised that would never happen...not sure what the new rep, Fred Flickinger, thinks of the issue.

Joe : It's a double edge sword, isn't it? We all want more business and for our existing businesses to do well, but none of us want more traffic or to have a road slice right through the middle of East End Park, which is what's necessary to make that happen. I remember seeing Kingwood master planning documents on line somewhere, and that extension of Kingwood Drive is actually in those documents. In fact if you look at the roads in the development directly across the river from Kingwood called The Commons of Lake Houston in Huffman, Kingwood Drive actually continues through there. All that's missing to connect the two is a bridge which was obviously planned but never built. The rest is already in place. .
