No, it's a different demographic. There are many bulk items, and it is cement floor/warehouse style. There are some HEB products there, but there is also a lot of their own "Mi Tienda" products, which are more basic.
I was at the one on 1960 last October, and they did have baggers. Many registers open, always well staffed.
The name was created to honor Joe Villareal; he began with HEB as a janitor, because he could work nights, and pay for college and be able to attend classes, during the day. He brought the idea of the store's concept and market to the HEB board, so they named it after him.

Lots of customers and imo the parking will not be nice. We went to the one on 1960 and it was crazy busy. Had an interesting little area with jewelry and spices and items to light and bless your house. I forget what it's called and I didn't know most of what was there. Lots of Hispanics which is ok with me. I've been wanting to go again but I have some mobility issues which complicates things. Heck, I'm freaking old (76) which puts a damper on my fun lol.
They already have a huge lot,one of the largest in the area, as it was a Kroger. Plus, there are a few business close by, that close about 5pm, so that amount of parking will be available, all evening. With groceries being more expensive nowadays, it will be good to have competition and options, imho. Their spice, cheese and produce sections are very nice.
LittleTexas : I do like some of the Mi Tienda products. I buy some of them at HEB ( I really like their refrigerated refried beans).
Their chickens roasted in store are really delicious. Grab some fresh tortillas, avocado, peppers, and other items you like in a chicken taco, and eat!!
Yes, it Was
eighteen : Yes, it Was I forgot to put (sic) beside the word. Isn't that the Correct spelling, after all?!
I deemed the term years ago, when one of the kids begged me to go there, last minute, on December 23rd, to help them find a gift for a girlfriend. I did, of course, but my rule now is No Maul Activity After December 18th. None, nada, nyet, Nay, Nay! This was well before Amazon shopping, etc., but the term surely still applies! :D
