Donnawisdom ZMAN :
I'm betting before sunrise. When I ran I always did it then. If I ran through Sand Creek I rarely saw anyone. If I ran to Kings Harbor and over the bridge I'd see more people running.

I have to say even though it's hot here in AZ I see way more people out running and cycling than I ever did in TX. Today's walk I saw 6 different people running, 3 groups of cyclists and a ton of dog walkers in the 30 minutes I walked the dog. When we hike we get to the trail before sunrise or we won't get a parking spot

Today local gyms thrive

luannski :
Gyms have also changed.

I recall gyms being 4 solid walls with no windows in locations isolated from other people.

Now it's a little more of a social environment and people exercising are part of the exhibit.

I think that is perfect! Losing weight quickly almost always leads to weight gained back.
If you lose it so slowly that you hardly notice it, it will stay lost.

It takes a bit to see results. You could hire a personal trainer. There were good reviews for the guy on Northpark in a strip center between WLH and Woodland Hills. Can't remember the name - small place 1 on 1

I'm amazed at the level of physical fitness that has occurred in our lifetime. It used to be you got exercise if your job was physical or you played sports in school but Jack LaLane was the beginning of teaching everyday people that they should exercise regularly. Today local gyms thrive, our greenbelt are busy with joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers.

luannski : It is interesting how attitudes toward exercise have evolved, even in my lifetime. I am fortunate that it has been a lifelong passion for me, starting with sports as a kid, then weights when I was 13, then more sports/gym as an adult and eventually distance running. I do it for the health benefits, because I feel good, and because it allows me to do things, and likely continue to be able to do things, well into my old age. It's never been about my weight, although certainly lower weight often is a product of exercise and a healthy diet.

To think that at one point, distance running for women was discouraged because their uterus might fall out. What??? It seems almost comical now. Emoticon
